Wilma J. (Gentry) Smiechowski, 91, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. She was born on May 25, 1933 in Bertrand, Michigan to the late William Harvey and Mary Inez (Jennings) Gentry. Wilma was also preceded in death by four sons, William J., Michael D., Joseph E., and Eugene M. Smiechowski, three sisters, Deloris E. Dunklebarger, M. Maxine Nova and Ethel L. Coleman. She is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Wilma worked for many years at the University of Notre Dame. Wilma attended St. Patrick grade school and was a 1951 graduate of South Bend Catholic High School. She loved to work on puzzles and ready mystery novels. When she was able to, she used to love to crochet blankets and scarves for Hope Ministries.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN. A graveside service will immediately follow at 12:30 pm at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice foundation in Wilma's honor.
