Mrs. Wilma Turner, age 98 of LaFollette passed from this earthly life on Monday, July 29, 2024 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Affectionately known as “Wilma Martha” to several of her family members, she was saved at the age of 5, and was a long-time member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was an accomplished quiltmaker and dearly loved the time she spent quilting with her late daughter, Janie. Wilma also enjoyed cooking, and in the last few years, discovered her love of boating and being on the water. A staunch Democrat, Wilma was an advocate for exercising your right to vote, and served as a local election day volunteer for many years. For her service to the community, the Campbell County Commission and Mayor proclaimed a “Wilma Turner Day” in Campbell County. In recent years, she has spent much of her time volunteering with the Friends of Campbell County Animals. Wilma is preceded in death by husband, Billy James Turner, beloved daughter, Janie Siwinski, parents, Orlando and Octavia (Allen) Myers, sisters, Gladys Myers Craig, Marie Myers Blizzard Thomas, Ruby Myers Parrott, Alta Myers Ayers, and Vera Vivian Myers Sherril, brothers, Bruce Myers, Carlock Myers, and Wade Myers, nieces, Hollins Octavia Langton and Lannis Seal, nephew, Kenneth Paul Myers, and special extended niece, Phyllis Turner.
Wilma is survived by her Son-in-law whom she loved as a son, S. Michael Siwinski and wife, Patricia, who was her wonderful caregiver and often referred to her as her daughter; Sister, Frankie Langton; Brother, Dan Myers and Wife, Josie Sister-in-law, Nellie Myers; her beloved dogs, Penny, Molly, and Gracie; Special Niece, Patsy Hooker; Special Nephews, Lee Myers and Joe Myers; several other nieces, nephews, friends, and community members who will deeply miss her.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Walters Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jimmy Orick and Rev. Mike Aiken officiating. Interment to follow at Fincastle Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to: Friends of Campbell County Animals, 749 Towe String Road, Jacksboro, TN 37757, or at www.fccanimals.org.
