Wilson "Butch" Stanley Cox, Jr., age 79, of Frederic, Mi passed away peacefully in Essexville, MI on June 9, 2025
Butch was born on August 8, 1945 to Wilson and Ila (Baldwin) Cox, Sr. in Grayling, MI. He married his lifelong love Sarah Jane Dutton on October 11, 1969 in Frederic, MI. Butch proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS York County which earned the Arleigh Burke Fleet award during his service.
Butch was a "jack of all trades" and a very skilled handyman. He built two homes, often worked on electrical and plumbing for different jobs, and was good at whatever he attempted to build or fix. He worked at Bear Archery for quite some time, also was a truck driver, but his most proud work was as a security guard at Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant.
Butch was an avid fisherman and hunter, both small and large game. He loved to go boating and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed riding his ATV, everything outdoors, and shooting bow. He was also an amazing marksman with rifles and active reloading. His handyman skills were often used in woodworking as well, cutting and working with different woods.
Butch is survived by his daughter, Jolene Quinlan of Mount Pleasant, MI and Aaron (Tara) Blaine of Frederic, MI; grandchildren, Rhyannon, Michael, Ashley, Corie, Andrew, Casey, Eryka, Evan, and Elliana; step-grandchildren, Tara & Josh, Allen Iverson Jr & Kayla Crouch, Zachary Iverson, Jonathan Webb, Jennifer Webb and Jessica Webb; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Loretta Kinney; nieces and nephews, Delbert Case, Rodney Case, Joanne Kinney, Dennis Case, and Denise Taylor.
He is preceded in death by his wife Sarah Jane Cox, brother Richard Cox, sister Florence Case, and both parents Wilson and Ila Cox.
Visitation and funeral gathering/sharing will take place Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 10:00 am - 12:00 PM at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling, MI. Butch will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Frederic, MI with Military Honors following funeral services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
