It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Winfred “Wimpy” Earl Sutton, beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, who went to his heavenly home on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on Monday, September 14, 1942, in Mitchell, Missouri, Winfred spent his life dedicated to his family and his passions, leaving behind a rich legacy of love and devotion.
Wimpy was preceded in death by his parents, Albert L. Sutton and Namio (Wallace) Sutton-Barran; his loving wife, Dorothy (Hays) Sutton; siblings, Carl Sutton, Charles “Slick” Sutton, Lester “Pete” Sutton, Carolyn Loomis, Patsy Black, David Sutton, 2 children in infancy and one stepson, Lester Hays.
Wimpy proudly retired from General Motors after 34 years of service as an assembler, a job he approached with diligence and pride. After his retirement, he found joy on his farm, immersing himself in the care of his cows. His love for nature extended to his hobbies, including hunting deer and turkey, which brought him great happiness and fulfillment. A steadfast supporter of his grandchildren, Winfred was an avid fan, rarely missing a basketball game. He held a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals and sharing his enthusiasm with family and friends.
He is survived by his three loving children, Edwin “Ed” Sutton and wife Robin, of Mitchell, Missouri, Sherry Sutton of Park Hills, Missouri and Timothy “Tim” Sutton and wife Fara, of Seattle, Washington; one step daughter, Bonnie Ratcliff; eight grandchildren, Sarah Lindsey, Alex Sutton, Elliot Sutton (Kinsey), Leanna McMillian (Jeremy), Erin Sutton (Drew Abt), Nathan Sutton, Mayumi Remedios, and Shelia Ratcliff; eleven great-grandchildren with one due to be here in September; and several great -great grandchildren; and one brother he also leaves behind, Joe Sutton and wife Lori.
Family was paramount in Winfred’s life, but his true heart was for his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His warm smile and gentle spirit will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer Funeral Home in Desloge, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 5:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M. Visitation will resume on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 9:00 A.M. until service time of 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Bradford Laubinger officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Farmington, Missouri.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mercy Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Wimpy during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Winfred’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society or to Feed My Sheep, both of which reflect his caring spirit and commitment to helping others.
Winfred Earl Sutton will forever be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his kind, gentle nature. May he rest in peace.
