Winifred Flaherty (née Gallimore), 94, of Peachtree City, Georgia, formerly of Metuchen, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on July 10, 1931, in Newark, New Jersey, she was the beloved daughter of Donald and Anne Gallimore. Winifred-affectionately known as Wynne-was a longtime resident of Metuchen, where she lived for 65 years and built a life filled with family, faith, and community. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Robert D. Flaherty Sr., with whom she shared a lifetime of love.

Wynne's life was marked by generosity, warmth, and faith. A devoted parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a dedicated member of the Rosary Society. Her commitment to service extended into the community through her involvement with the Twigs Society, Lions Club, Metuchen Senior Citizens, Borough Improvement League, Metuchen Election Board, and as a Girl Scout leader.

She retired from the Metuchen School District, where she worked as an aide in the Campbell School Library. There, she shared her love of books with countless children. After moving to Georgia, Wynne became an active member of the Somerby Adult Community, where she contributed to the library and participated wholeheartedly in the choir, Saturday rosary, Tuesday communion service, art classes, board games, and even friendly competitions of bean bag baseball and cornhole.

Above all, Wynne cherished her family. She had a gift for telling stories of family history, a way of reminding everyone of their roots, and a steady faith that assured her loved ones that no matter the challenge, everything would be okay if we faced it together.

Wynne is survived by her children:

Donna Ann Flaherty of Peachtree City, GA

Robert Flaherty Jr. of Asbury, NJ

Thomas Flaherty and his spouse Lynn of Pt. Pleasant, NJ

Shawn Flaherty and his spouse Nek of Myrtle Beach, SC

Therese Waterson and her spouse Robert of Peachtree City, GA

Arthur M. Flaherty Sr. and his spouse Lisette of Metuchen, NJ

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Diana Le (Michael), Therese Ann Flaherty, Amanda Ryan (Jake), Shawnn Flaherty, Luke Flaherty, Thomas Flaherty, Regan Flaherty, Kaitlyn Yates (Noah), Robert Scott Waterson (Victoria), Shanley Waterson, Kelcey Anne Flaherty, Arthur M. Flaherty Jr. (Madalyn), Daniel M. Flaherty, Kylie Jo Flaherty, and Leslie Eva Flaherty; and her beloved great-grandchildren: Ella Le, Van Le, Winifred Le, Ivy River Ryan, Rhett Waterson, and Grace Yates.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 from 6:00-9:00pm at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave, Metuchen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Metuchen on September 13, 2025, at 11:30am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (formerly Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Formerly JDRF)) www2.breakthrought1d.org in honor of her granddaughter, Kylie Jo.

Wynne's love, faith, and gentle spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
