He was a member of the First Baptist Church J-town. Woodie is the Pastor Emeritus of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He also retired from Active Transportion.
He is survived by his wife, Janice McElvaney; children, Kerwin McElvaney Sr., Emma Simmons (George) and Wynette Young; stepsons, Ronald Hudson Jr. and Vaughn Hudson Sr. (Yvette); siblings, Parthenia Durrett and Emma Jean Talbert (Cecil); 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, a host of family and friends.
Visitation: 5pm-8pm Friday, September 29, 2023, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 3315 Dixie Highway. Funeral 11am Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the church, Burial 10am Monday, October 2, 2023in Resthaven Memorial Mausoleum.
Arrangements entrusted A. D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home, 1300 W. Chestnut St.

I miss his joyfulness, his smile, the way his was always upbeat in spite of his struggles. Our talks on the phone just talking about nothing. His was such a great mentor. I think about him constantly, and I find myself wanting to call him and check on him but I can't. Sometimes i wish there was a phone in heaven so I can call and check on the ones I love the most. You are greatly missed

I remember him 1st coming to Oakland and he was the best pastor I had. Was loving, attentive and everyone loved him. He officiated our wedding. He was our counselor, and our guide. I would call just to check in and he always had a smile on his face when I talked to him no matter what battle he was going through. I'm going to miss him terribly. . Get your rest Rev McElvaney. You'll always be in my heart.

As long as I live, I'll never forget Rev. McElvaney coming twice to the hospital to visit me when I had open heart surgery in 2011.

Woody has been my friend since we were teenager's . When he told me he was going to preach I thought man you lost your mind or what.
He proved me wrong, becoming one of the best and even my pastor at Antioch. Woody you will be truly missed by so many, but I know you have gained your crown in heaven, rest well in peace and power. to the family I extend my deepest sympathy from the C.A.R.E.
