Yanning Liu was born in Beijing, China on September 10, 1955. Brought up in the turbulent times of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, she attended only four years of primary school before all formal education was suspended nationwide for a decade. She was sent to work in the factories but through self-study and perseverance, she pursued her education independently and in 1977, when the university entrance exams were reinstated, she passed with excellent marks and enrolled at Shaanxi Mechanical Institute, one of the first of her generation to attend higher education. Upon graduation, she was assigned to work at the Beijing Semiconductor Research Institute.

In 1984, she married Chunlin Tao, and in 1986, they were blessed with a beloved daughter. In 1989, she joined her husband in the United States. She pursued a master's degree in Computer Science at Marquette University and then went on to work for the Florida State Government and Unisys, where her dedication, excellence, and outstanding performance earned her numerous accolades.

In 1994, a car accident left her with long-term pain. She poured all her energy into her family-supporting her husband, raising her daughter, and later, showering boundless love on her two cherished granddaughters.

Yanning was resilient and intelligent, had a passion for wood carving and painting, and was skilled in sewing, cooking, and gardening. Her life was one filled with love and the creation of beauty.

On September 9, 2025, Yanning Liu passed away in Carlsbad, CA. Her voice, her smile, her strength, and her warmth will forever remain etched in our hearts.

She is survived by her husband, Chunlin Tao, daughter Amy Tao, and grandchildren Adelaide and Elea.
