Yola J. Bailey

On July 3, 2024, Yola Joy Spence Bailey, after a brief illness, joined the saints who had gone on before her. Miss Yola, as she was affectionately known, was born on May 6, 1930. For most of her 94 years she lived in Grenada, Mississippi within a mile of where she was born in Futheyville. At the time of her death she was living in Enterprise, Alabama.
Miss Yola was preceded in death by her parents Allie and Hazel Spence; her husband of many years, Wade Bailey; her daughter in law, Terri Whitworth Bailey; and her precious grandson, Samuel Kent Bailey. She is survived by her son, Terry Wade Bailey of Spanish Fort Alabama and her daughter, Jerre Bailey Simmons (Billy) of Enterprise, Alabama. Miss Yola is also survived by two grandchildren, Brittany Dasinger (Jacob) and Steven Simmons (Beth), and one granddaughter in law, Halley Bailey, and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Over the course of her life. she was a factory worker, retail worker, childcare worker, and a homemaker. Upon the death of her husband. she served out his term as the Tax Assessor/Collector for Grenada County. Miss Yola took delight in her flower garden and was a member of the Iris Club. As a devout Christian she served in numerous positions in her church. For over 25 years she was the church clerk at Hebron Baptist Church. She was always ready to step up to meet the needs of her family and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held at Mortimer National Funeral Home on July 8, 2024. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 pm. The Service will be at 3 pm. Our beloved friend, Rev. Jimmy Hood will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to loveshriners.org.
Oh Lord, remember Thy servant who has fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and everlasting life and make her memory eternal.
