Yolanda Castaneda

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Yolanda O. Castañeda, who left us on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Windsor Las Palmas in McAllen, TX. Born on December 30, 1953, in Mission, Texas, to the late Maria de la Luz Mejia and Jose Reyes Ortiz, Yolanda graced this world with her boundless love and vibrant spirit for 70 wonderful years.
Yolanda was a beacon of love and warmth, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She poured her heart into every role, nurturing her family with unmatched dedication. Her sociable nature made her a beloved figure in the community; she was always ready to lend a helping hand and found immense joy in volunteering. Whether it was gathering for a family meal at her favorite restaurants, Taco Ole and El Patio in Mission, or spending time at the Catholic War Veterans Post, Yolanda cherished every opportunity to connect with others.
Her favorite pastimes were gambling and shopping, pursuits she enjoyed with her signature zest for life. Above all, Yolanda's heart belonged to her grandchildren. She treasured every moment spent with them and delighted in their company. She also shared a special bond with her nieces and nephews, who brought her great joy.
Yolanda is preceded in death by her two beloved children, Paul Castañeda Jr. and Erika Castañeda, and her brother, Reymond Ortiz.
She leaves behind her cherished daughter Laura Castañeda (Jorge) Garcia, and two loving grandchildren, Andy (Claire) Garcia and Javier Andres Garcia. She is also survived by her dear siblings Gloria DeLeon, Jose Ortiz Jr., Ruben Ortiz, Roberto Ortiz, and Rene Ortiz, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Flores Funeral Home in Mission, TX. In accordance with her wishes, cremation will follow. Funeral arrangements are under the compassionate care of Flores Funeral Home of Mission.
Yolanda's legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
