It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our son, Zachary Simpson, on September 4, 2024, at the age of 31. After a tough 10-month battle with liver failure, Zach left this world much like he came into it, surrounded by love with our arms around him. Zach was born and raised in Kamas, Utah, where he lived his entire life, close to the people he loved.

Zach was a kind, tenderhearted soul with a special connection to animals, a trait he shared with his mother. Whether at home, working at the local animal shelters, or traveling, animals recognized his gentle spirit. From the oldest, grumpiest cat in the shelter, where he devoted many years of care, to the whales that allowed him to touch their calves and even open their mouths to let him scrub their tongues, every creature sensed his kindness.

From a young age, Zach showed an incredible knack for understanding how things were built and how they functioned. Even as a toddler, he could often be found with a screwdriver in hand, disassembling things around the house. His mechanical mind, natural strength, and hands-on approach were nurtured by watching his dad solve problems—whether it was fixing a barn on the verge of collapse or repairing a tractor that had broken down, Zach had an amazing ability to resolve any issue or problem. Countless times, Zach combined his compassion for animals with his mechanical skills, like when he built a way for the family's pot-bellied pigs to come into the garage and stay warm and cozy.

He always expressed himself and tried every new experience he could in the world. He was reading “The order of Time” and exploring the quantum theory of “Time.” He also studied Japanese grammar, syntax, and language so he could clearly understand movies better. He read endlessly like his mother and was always looking for new stories and adventures. Zach was never short of love to give to those around him. He always created laughter in the room with his beautiful sense of humor. His friends knew how much he loved them and could trust that he would always accept them as they are. He loved people who were genuine, true, and honest. He touched so many hearts with his quiet genuine presence.

He is survived by his parents, Scott and Misty Simpson, and his siblings, Ashley Simpson, and Jesse Simpson. We are heartbroken to lose him so soon. We are deeply grateful for the time we were able to spend together. His spirit walks with us now and we will carry his memory with us forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local animal shelter in Zach’s honor. A private memorial service will be held with close family and friends.
