Zandra Marlow, 80, of Parsons, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 9, 2024.
Zandra was born on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1944, at her grandparents' home in Baxter Springs, to Jay Edgar and Velma Joan (Elsten) Hansford. Zandra's father was serving overseas when she was born, and he was killed in action on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944 during the Normandy Invasion. Zandra was raised by her loving mother and also received much nurturing care from her Grandpa and Granny, Floyd and Mary (Stafford) Elsten. She grew up in rural Galena and attended Riverton Schools, graduating from Riverton High School in 1962. She attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Mo. and Kansas State College of Pittsburg.
She married Warren Marlow at Trinity Baptist Church in Pittsburg on January 29, 1966. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Wichita Falls, Tx., Montgomery, Al., Wichita, Pittsburg, Overland Park, and Topeka. In 1976, they moved to Parsons, where they put down roots and raised their family. Zandra took loving care of the home and children and was an active room mother for her children's classrooms at Washington Elementary. In 1983, she began working in the food service office of USD 503. She was the lunch ticket lady at Parsons High School for 23 years, until her retirement in 2006.
All of her adult life, she taught children's Bible and Missions classes at church. She was a founding member of Living Hope Southern Baptist Church and was much-loved by her church family there. Zandra's greatest joy in life was being Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her devoted husband of 58 years. She is survived by her three children, Wayne Marlow and his wife Eden of Moline, Ill., Teri Jo Newton and her husband Matt of Parsons, and Scott Marlow and his wife Cherie of Parsons, 16 grandchildren, Jonathan Newton (Racheal) of Parsons, Nicole Munoz (Gonzalo) of Independence, Kaela Downey (Brian) of Parsons, Caleb Newton (Charity Rose) of Parsons, Benjamin Newton of Parsons, Marcus Newton of Parsons, Madelyn Marlow of Avon, Co., Charity Williams (Turner) of Overland Park, Hollie Marlow of Iola, Timothy Newton and Bethany Newton of Parsons, Cherokee Marlow, Isis Marlow, William Marlow, Alexander Marlow, and Troy Marlow, of Moline, Ill., and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Mark D. Clark and his wife Carla of Maize, her nephew Matthew Clark of Wichita, her nieces, Cara Weishaar, of Halstead, Kaci Albett, of Wichita and Kaleigh Bech, of Russellville, KY, her lifetime best friend of 71 years, Cheryl Warstler of Riverton, and dear friend Kathy Lenati of Parsons. She was preceded in death by her parents Jay and Joan, her loving step-father, Rogers Clark, and her granddaughter, Mollie Jo Marlow.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 31 at Living Hope Church. The family suggests memorials to Living Hope Church, 400 N. 32nd, Parsons. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
