Publish in a newspaper

Zulma "Zoo-Mie" Nieves, 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at BMC–Brighton. She was born on August 24, 1959, in New York City, the beloved daughter of the late Nelly (Rivera) Goyco and William Nieves, she was the eldest of eight siblings.
Though her early months were marked by medical challenges, Zulma overcame them and went on to meet her developmental milestones with strength and resilience. From ages 4 to 14, she lived with her family in Puerto Rico before returning to the United States and settling in Brockton, Massachusetts.
As her care needs increased, Zulma moved into a supportive facility where she received the attention she needed. In the late 1980s, she found a new home on Memorial Drive in Stoughton, MA. Zulma was an active and cherished member of her community. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life-shopping, visiting local coffee shops, attending church, and engaging with those around her. She especially loved spending time at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton, MA, where she regularly attended services and church functions.
Known for her impeccable style and flair, Zulma was a true fashionista. She delighted in changing outfits throughout the day, often matching the staff's attire-a reflection of her joyful spirit and love for connection. Some enjoyable hobbies included playing iPad games, writing, coloring, matching games, dancing, and listening to Spanish and Mexican music. These activities not only provided relaxation and entertainment but also stimulated creativity and enhanced cognitive skills for Zoo-Mie. Additionally, interests in professional roles such as personal stylist, office secretary, billing and coding, and color coordinator showcase a range of creative and organizational talents she had.
Zulma brought light and happiness wherever she went. She held a special place in the hearts of all who knew her. Life will not be the same without her presence.
Zulma is survived by her siblings Madelyn Nieves, Monista Nieves, Maria Caraballo, Alberto Caraballo, Luz Caraballo, Wanda Caraballo, Carlos Caraballo and Adelaida Goyco, along with several nieces and nephews. Zoo-Mie is also survived by the staff of Memorial Drive; Normand D., Steven B., Kristen L., Nicholas C. and Carlo G..
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Southeast Funeral Home, 93 Center St., North Easton, MA from 9:00-10:00am, with a Funeral Service in the funeral home at 10:00am, followed by a burial at Melrose Cemetery, 88 North Pearl St., Brockton, MA. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
