Eileen Nora "Chum" Nugent Mailhot Obituary

April 22, 1924 - September 8, 2024

Eileen Nora "Chum" Nugent Mailhot (a long-time resident of Napa) has moved on to her heavenly reward. Eileen was a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and a devoted Catholic and daily communicant. Eileen passed on September 8th (Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary). Eileen traveled around the United States and Europe to visit many Marian sites with her daughters.

Eileen was born April 22, 1924, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to Nora O'Malley Nugent (County Galway, Ireland) and Bernard Nugent (Armagh, Ireland). Eileen met the love of her life, Thomas Mailhot, while he was stationed at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in New Hampshire. Tom and Chum celebrated a double wedding in St. Clement Catholic Church Long Island NY with Chum's sister, Ronnie and Tom's best friend Wain Beard on June 12, 1948.

Our mother's love and talent for art was delightfully expressed in making theater and holiday costumes for her children. She particularly loved the ocean - the Northern California Coastline, and we had many picnics from Bodega Bay to Carmel. She also loved music, and some of her favorite tunes were "You are my Sunshine" and "I just called to say I Love You" which she would sing at family gatherings. She and her sisters Mary and Ronnie performed at local events and on the radio in the 30's and 40's: in Portsmouth, NH, they were called the "Nugent Girls". Mom was an avid reader, and she loved poetry and would recite whole poems aloud from memory.

Eileen leaves behind Noel Mailhot, Sr. Veronica Mailhot, Mickey (John) Oberst, Sheila Mailhot, Patricia (John) Test, Tom Mailhot, Wain (Megan) Mailhot, Alana Mailhot, Mary (Jeff) Twombly, Grace Gemma Mailhot (Chris), and ten grandchildren: Veronica, Luke, Austin, Dominick Twombly; Michileen Marie (Kyle) Oberst-Langdon; Nathan, Thomas, Michael Mailhot; and Maureen and Olivia Mailhot. She is survived by many nieces and nephews whom she held deep in her heart and prayers. Eileen was predeceased by her husband Tom after 72 years of marriage, daughter Rosemary, daughter-in-law Jane Mailhot, her sisters Mary Bernier of Ohio and Ronnie Beard, and brother-in-law Wain Beard of Napa.

Chum and Aunt Ronnie are now together with their submariner sweethearts Tom and Wain.
