Frederick Anthony Hermann
1935 - 2021
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of retired Fire Captain Frederick Anthony Hermann on March 24, 2021 with his wife and children at his side. Born in Morehead Minnesota on March 20, 1935 to Edward and Anna Hermann. Fred was the youngest of 10 children.
Fred grew up in Morehead Minnesota and Fargo North Dakota until high school when he moved to California to live with his brother and his family. He attended St. Mary's High School in Berkeley. Upon high school graduation in 1953 he enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corp., where he proudly served for 4 years.
Fred married his wife Sharon Freitas in 1958 and have been married for 63 years. Together they raised 4 children.
Fred joined the Richmond Fire Department in 1962 and proudly worked until his retirement in 1980.
He moved the family to Napa, CA in 1973 where he and Sharon built a beautiful home, raised their family and farmed their vineyard. He loved playing golf and was a member at N.V. Country Club.
In January of 2001 Fred became a heart transplant recipient.
Fred is survived by his wife Sharon Hermann, 4 children, Denise (Tom) Cocke, Elayne Hermann, Grant (Elizabeth) Hermann, and Scott Hermann. His grandchildren are Josh, Justin, and Tyson Cocke, Kaylee Musante, Cody, Chloe and Aiden Hermann. Great grandchildren include Jaxson, Nico, William, Henrik.
He was a friend and hero to many. We love, honor & salute you! Semper fi.
