Randy Neller Obituary

Randy "Coach" Neller passed away at the age of 68 in his hometown of Saint Helena on December 11th, 2024. His unexpected passing was peaceful, and in the comfort of his own bed.

Randy Neller was a pillar of the local community in Saint Helena. Randy worked over 45 years at Beringer Winerey, doing everything from logistics to maintenance. When he was not working, he dedicated his free time to the local high school football program in Saint Helena, where he served in a coaching role for over 30 years. Coach Neller, as many called him, could not go anywhere in town without being stopped by a previous football player, or parent, who were grateful for his role as coach in their lives. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports, and watching his sons coach sports.

Randy enjoyed woodworking, bicycling, fishing, camping, and kayaking. More than anything, Randy was passionate about helping his friends and family with issues around the house, from plumbing to roofing to electrical, he was a jack of all trades. Although he sometimes pretended not to enjoy it, he secretly loved all the animals his wife brought home to raise.

Randy is survived by his wife Marcie of 46 years, his three sons, Kevin, Adam and Chris, and his three granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Lindsey, and Claire. Additionally, he is survived by his mother Fauntilla, his two brothers, Wayne and Glen. A memorial will be held at the American Legion Hall on December 28th, from 2-4 where light refreshments will be served. In lieu of gifts, please make a donation to the Saint Helena High School Athletic Association, or Napa Valley Support Services.

I was surprised to learn of Randy´s passing recently. I wish I had been able to see him and let him know how much he meant to me as a coach, a mentor, and a friend. Randy... you taught me to ski, you taught me to persevere, and you taught me to never give up when things get hard. I wish i could have explained to you how many times your lessons were all i had in some tough times... but Randy... your lessons were all i needed. Rest in peace... and ya know... i bet i can make it down an intermediate run still.... and every time i ski now, i will look up... remember you... your kind guidance and belief in me when others did not... and thank you again... because in life i have needed to believe... and i learned to believe through you.
