Robert Champion Obituary
He spent his early years traveling between India and the United States as the child of Seventh Day Adventist missionaries. In 1946, the family relocated to St. Helena, where he finished high school and attended Pacific Union College while working at Napa State Hospital.
He met his wife Mary in the tuberculosis ward, where he was an aide and she was the ward nurse.
His working life spanned several industries, from chicken farming, to Kaiser Steel, to Exxon. He retired from Exxon in the 1990s, and began traveling the country with Mary in their motorhome, visiting his siblings, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.
Every year, they spent Spring Training in Arizona, watching their beloved San Francisco Giants. They were season ticket holders for many years at Candlestick Park, taking their kids and grandkids frequently and inspiring a lifelong devotion to the team for many members of the family. They were awarded many Croix de Candlestick pins.
Robert leaves behind:
6 children- James Renfrow, Mariane Heisler, Victor Renfrow, Diana Champion, Paul Champion, and Carmen Galindo
12 grandchildren - Janet, Jacob, Jeremiah, Rachel, Jenifer, Mary, Lisa, Meghan, JP, Brad, Kathryn, Joseph
and 12 great-grandchildren - Dagny, Sofia, Cameryn, Vince, Gabi, Fiona, Ashton, Hudson, Olive, John, Joseph, and Gabriel.
He also leaves behind his good friends at the Yountville Bocce Club, who will miss his sweet attitude and willingness to help.
A memorial service will be held on May 2nd at 11am at Napa Valley Memorial Park at 2383 Napa Vallejo Hwy, Napa, CA 94558, with reception to follow at the same location. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Bob's name. Robert Maurice Champion
