It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Steve Lundin. Steve is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Jane, his children Jeffrey and Abigail, daughter-in-law Kacey, son-in-law Mike, and grandchildren Arthur, Penelope, Taylor, and Blake.

Steve will be remembered for his optimism and warm personality. His grandchildren called him "Big Daddy", a great match for his humor, his dedication to his friends and family, and his height! Steve loved an audience for his jokes and had a unique ability to make everyone around him smile.

Born in Santa Monica, Steve grew up on the Peninsula attending St. Bartholomew School ('66), Serra High School ('70), and UC Berkeley ('74). At Cal, he served as the president of the Sigma Nu fraternity where he made best friends that traveled with him to Giants Spring Training for over 20 years. A devoted Cal football fan, he tailgated for every Cal home game, and celebrated 50 consecutive Big Games with a Cal win against Stanford!

He was an incredible athlete and rose to be the top tennis player at Serra High School. In college, played on the Cal tennis team. One of his most memorable experiences was playing in a tennis tournament with the inmates at San Quentin Prison! Later in life, he competed in the national championships with the Round Hill Country Club tennis team, and he spent many hours on the golf course at Silverado Country Club.

Steve raised $200 million during his career in philanthropy for the organizations he served. Starting at UC Berkeley in the development office, he moved on to become President and CEO of the Alta Bates Summit Medical Foundation and then in the same capacity at Adventist Health St. Helena Medical Foundation.

Steve enjoyed his weekends boating, gardening, and camping. He coached youth sports for his children's teams and cheered for the Giants, Warriors, 49ers, and, of course, the Cal Bears. He was always eager to wash his car and drive the convertible with the top down. He loved traveling, cruises, tasting wine, and buying beer t-shirts from around the world.

Steve loved life, and when his diagnosis of triple hit lymphoma took his health, he spent his last seven months at MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston, Texas continuing to fight the fight for every minute he could get. Although he lost his battle, his courage and spirit are an inspiration for all of his family and friends.

Towards the end of his cancer battle, when asked if he was at peace with his fate, he answered, "I lived a damn good life." May we all be able to live a life we can be proud of. We are all grateful to have known and loved him.
