Thomas Oker Obituary

Tom was called home by God on April 23, 2021 after a valiant seven year journey with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). He was the caring son of his deceased parents, Nicholas and Margaret (nee McGann) Oker. Tom lived in Naperville for 50 years with his devoted wife, Donna (nee Roach) while raising their wonderful children: Kathleen Oker, Susan (Timothy) Street, and Thomas (Rhonda nee Komes) Oker. He cherished his three beautiful granddaughters: Lydia Oker, Brittany Street, and the late Megan Street. Tom is also survived by his loving sister, Margaret (late Edward) Kapelinski; brother-in-law, Joseph (Kathleen) Roach; and several nieces and nephews. He was a loyal friend to his cousins, schoolmates, co-workers, co-volunteers, and neighbors throughout his 87 years. Prior to retiring from Midas International, he volunteered at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Saint Raphael Catholic Church. After retirement he volunteered at Edward Hospital, Kiwanis, SCORE, Navy League, VFW, and the American Legion. He proudly served in the US Navy submarine service and thoroughly enjoyed participating in the 2016 Honor Flight. The family sincerely appreciated the tender and professional care that Tom received from More Than Family's Loreta, who formed the "Tom Team" for 19 months at home. We also thank the Spruce staff at The Springs of Monarch Landing plus the Residential Hospice group so that Tom was able to pass with comfort and dignity. God bless you all. Everyone will miss Tom's beautiful and contagious smile. Therefore, he would suggest that you share a smile as a gift to someone every day. Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Homes & Crematory, 24021 Royal Worlington Dr. Naperville, IL. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 701 S. Eola Rd. Aurora, IL. Interment with military honors to follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, 911 North Ave. Naperville, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in Tom's name to: Cure PSP 1216 Broadway/Second Floor New York, New York 10001 or Mercy Home for Boys and Girls 1140 West Jackson Blvd Chicago, IL 60607
