David H. Apling Adrian, MI
David H. Apling, 73, of Adrian, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Cambrian Assisted Living.
He was born April 30, 1941 in Port Clinton, OH to Loyd and Margaret (Newbury) Apling. After graduating from Whitmer High School, he went to the University of Toledo on a wrestling scholarship where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in business.
On November 23, 1963, Dave married his high school sweetheart, Donna Patrick, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Toledo, and she survives.
Dave's career began in sales of pharmaceuticals, dental equipment and imaging medical equipment. After many successful years, he chose to leave behind wearing a suit and tie and being away from his family in favor of Sperry's and time on the water. In February of 1983 he, along with his wife Donna, opened Devil's Lake Water Sports. Devil's Lake Water Sports has grown, changed locations and now has the third generation involved in the business. Dave loved boating and pioneered an endurance pontoon boat trip on the Great Circle Waterway around Northern Michigan to Marco Island, FL where he and Donna enjoyed many winters.
In addition to Donna, his wife of 51 years; he is survived by their sons, Michael (Elizabeth) and Patrick (Laurie) Apling, both of Hudson; three grandchildren, Andrew (Jade Huffman) Apling, Katie and Thomas Apling; and siblings, Dan (Deanna) Apling of Columbus, OH and Manna Lou (Robert) Bruckner of Fort Wayne, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services for Dave will take place on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Loyd and Margaret lived across the street where I grew up (Pershing at Bales). We visited and purchased many things from Devil's Lake Water Sports and years ago I was surprised to learn David owned it. He was kind and helpful in everything he did. God's blessing to this family.
