Louis W. Fritz, 81, of Bonita Springs, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Joanne's House at Hope Hospice after a brief illness. Lou had been a resident of Bonita Springs since 2005 coming from Ashland, OH.
He was born April 15, 1929 in Ashland, OH, a son of the late Lawrence and Mildred (Pete) Fritz. He graduated in 1951 from Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH and upon graduation served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After the Korean Conflict, he owned the Lou Fritz Cadillac-Buick dealership in Ashland, OH and was a graduate of the General Motors Institute. After leaving the automotive business he served as the first director of Economic Development for Cuyahoga County, OH. He was also an adjunct professor at Ashland University. Mr. Fritz was an Ohio Commodore. Membership in the Executive Order of the Ohio Commodores is only possible through appointment by Ohio's Governor in recognition for outstanding contributions to the economic development of the State of Ohio. It is considered Ohio's "most distinguished honor."
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen A. Fritz of Bonita Springs, FL; two sons, Jonathon Fritz Cook of Eau Claire, WI, and Peter L. Fritz of Mansfield, OH; stepson, Edmond Heartstedt of Ashland, OH; and stepdaughter, Karen (Marty) Myers of Ashland, OH. He is also survived by two sisters, Rebecca Long Dix of New Jersey, and Biddie Gay Clark of Upper Arlington, OH; and six grandchildren, Jonathan Cook, Alexander Cook, Lindsay E. Myers, Lacey E. Myers, Kyler E. Heartstedt, and Chase E. Heartstedt.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held Friday, June 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Naples, 3000 Orange Blossom Drive, Naples FL 34109.
Additional services will be held in Ashland, OH.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the First Baptist Church of Naples or to Joanne's House at Hope Hospice.
