RUBY CUSTARD GLOVER
Ruby Custard Glover was born on November 13, 1933 at the farm in Douglas County Nebraska to Alice (Rohwer) and Clifford Custard. She was the oldest of four children: Bernice Seefus (Larry), Harlan Custard (Nancy), Lorna Witt (Terry). She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson, confirmed at Bethany Lutheran in Elkhorn. She graduated from Elkhorn High in 1951. She was her dad's hired hand, learning to drive tractors etc. on the farm. She met her husband Joe Glover at a rural youth meeting at AKSARBEN in 1950. After three years of courtship, they were married in Elkhorn in 1953. They then moved to Nebraska City where they made their home. She joined her husband in the dump trucking business. She drove a truck long before it was fashionable for a woman to work in a man's world, she was a trendsetter. She hauled rock, sand, asphalt, and anything else the dump truck would hold. Ruby worked on the road crew that built the highway bypass around Nebraska City. In their free time on the weekends (which ended up being every weekend), Joe, Ruby, and the kids were very active in the Nebraska City Saddle Club. Ruby was known for sitting behind the timers, to keep them honest. Everybody knew they were coming when they saw the red four door truck and gooseneck trailer, both of which were the first of their kind in the area. She was also very active in the community and was instrumental in founding a school and workshop for the mentally handicapped children in the area in 1957 when Joey was an infant (which is still being utilized today). She and Joe had three children: Joey, Mike (Clara), and Kathy. She has three granddaughters: Jessica Shefferd, Lacey Glover, and Stephanie Eutsler. One grandson: Levi Glover. And one great grandson: Anthony Eutsler. Ruby was very supportive of her children and grandchildren, always trying to be at sporting events and swim team meets; she even started watching golf on TV to better understand it when Jessica started playing in high school. Ruby also worked at Tags One Stop as a clerk/cashier from early 1990 to late 2004. She enjoyed visiting with everyone that came in, especially comparing notes with the truckers. She also liked checking out the horse trailers that came through so she could see the colts inside from the Pitzer sale. Later in life, she found a love for cruising and went to Alaska twice because she hadn't seen everything the first time. She continued to live at home until she passed away peacefully with Kathy by her side at St Elizabeth's hospital in Lincoln December 14, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, in 1989, Mike in 2012, and Joey in 2017. As well as her parents and sister Bernice. She is survived by many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
