Anthony Phillips Obituary
HEATH: A service Celebrating the Life of Anthony Alan "Tony" Phillips will be held at 11am, on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at the Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home. His nephew Scott Cronin will officiate. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2-5pm and 6-8pm, on Wednesday, at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st Street in Newark.
Tony, 53, of Heath, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 2, 2017 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. He was born January 18, 1964, in Newark a son of Don (Sherrie) Phillips and Katherine Jo (Pete) Plante. A 1982 graduate of Heath High School, he earned a degree in Criminal Justice in 1984 from COTC. Tony began his career in law enforcement in 1985, with the Licking County Sheriff's Department and retired in 2012, after 27 years of service. He then served the Licking County Municipal Court Adult Probation as Community Service Coordinator until his passing. He was a member of the F.O.P., AMVETS, the Newark and Buckeye Lake Moose, Buckeye Lake Eagles and a past member of the Jaycees.
For many years he coached Track and Cross County teams at Heath High School and also officiated at events. He loved the ocean and June trips to Myrtle Beach to celebrate his anniversary and Father's Day. Tony dearly loved spending time with his family and friends and was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. He loved the daily walks with his beloved and inseparable dog "Willow" and enjoyed spending time with the family cat "Oreo".
Surviving in addition to his mother and father, are his wife Patty (Peterson) Phillips, whom he married June 18, 1988; his sons, Justin and Jacob "JP"; his brother Matthew (Heather) Offers; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Linda Peterson; brother-in-law Mike (Gayle) Cronin; sister-in-law Joyce Weber; special cousins Bill (Vicki) Hitchcock and Jeri (Nick) Ross; uncle, Greg (Bonnie) Crawford and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Tony gave the "gift of life" as an organ donor and was a proud member of his community.

You have my deepest sorrow. Tony was one of two of Gary Dusenberry's friends and drinking buddies that came to his memorial at the Amvet's. He was a good friend. I just read this on Friday.

Tony was a great teammate, classmate and friend. He had an incredible sense of humor, but also knew when to be a serious. He was kind, compassionate and strong. His character is proven by his life of public service and his commitment to his family, friends & his community.

On the day of, I was asked if I liked to run at my relatively new employment. And you came to mind, because of our runs together in High School. Running through the neighborhoods and Mound Builders Park. My heart goes out to your family and friends in Licking County :-(
Tony, Tony, Tony, You were a Public Servant for 30 years and retirement was to bring more time to spend with the family and friends for those special occasions missed, because as a Deputy Sheriff, 'duty called'. Missing birthdays, Holidays, special events and other sacrifices no one would understand except another law enforcement officer and their family, and in a short time, your time ended. I truly don't understand the Lord God Almighty and His ways. I am deeply saddened for your Wife, Sons, Mother, Dad, and all your Friends and Family. And your service didn't stop there, your organs were donated for those in need. May God bless you beyond measure in Heaven and may He keep and watchful eye on your family, providing and securing their future.

Tony was the deputy who took me to court daily when i was sent to Prison in 2005.he treated me with great respect and dignity.I remember seeing where he had retired and i spoke tp him at the lake one night at Papa boos.He was there with his wife and one son who had his name on hos shirt.He was smiling like a proud dad and looked happy and content.I respect ed him gretly and will ALWAYS recall his kindness to me..God speed Mr Phillips.May god have your family in his care.Thank you for being sp amazing of a man.

We are so sorry over the loss of our great friend and co-worker Tony. He made court hearings so smooth for all of us. He always looked out for our victims and their families while in the courtroom.
