George Wazeka Obituary

NEW BERN - Mr. George C. Wazeka, 82, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Chicago, IL, George was a retired U.S. Navy Chief and also retired Director of Instrumentation for the US Coast Guard Oceanography Unit. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 3303, of New Bern.

Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2011, at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Victor Gournas officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

George leaves behind his loving wife, Judith "Judy" K. Gurley; stepson, Bryan Scott Gurley and wife Joy of Wilmington, NC; stepdaughter, Karen Gurley Etter and husband Mike of Effingham, IL; brothers, Robert Ward and wife Doris of Findley, OH and Ted Ward and wife Irene of San Diego, CA. He also leaves, to cherish his memory, his grandchildren, Jordan Gurley of Wilmington, NC, Julie Hibson and husband James of Gainesville, VA, Chris Etter of Effingham, IL, and Dan Willis and wife Jill of Edwardsville, IL; and a great- grandson, Aiden Willis.
