Marie Johnson Obituary

NEWBERRY — Marie B. Johnson, 74, of Newberry, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Friday, June 14, 2024, at White Oak Manor.

She was born on November 30, 1949, in Newberry, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late James Pete Bishop and the late Vivian Ruth Beaty Bishop Summer. She was married to the love of her life, the late Micky F. Johnson, Sr.

Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known to be a "Firecracker" but a loving intention. She worked for many years at Champion Timber Company as a secretary and at Newberry Middle School as an Attendant Clerk. Alongside her husband, Micky, she was a proud supporter of the Newberry City Fire Department.

Marie was known for her artistry. She was often painting, designing and creating arts and crafts for special events, holidays and from the heart; it was truly her passion. She was a dedicated "band mom" with the Blue Brigade, while her children were involved in the band programs at Newberry High School. During this time Marie and her husband often worked diligently with the band program assisting with creating and building props for the band's yearly shows. Marie will forever be remembered for the ornaments she made each year for all the band students.

Marie has been and will forever remain the "rock" of her family and leaves a legacy of love and consideration to always help others. She adored her entire family and was always proud of her boys and especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons, Micky Johnson Jr. (Cheryl), Pete Johnson (Barbie), Chris Johnson and; her grandchildren, Heather Johnson, Kristen Johnson, Steven Johnson, Jason Johnson (Olivia), Samantha Knight, Wil Johnson, Chrissy "Pixie" Johnson, Parker Horne (Rachel), Brysen Horne and Scott Johnson; great-grandchildren, T.J, Zaiden, Miyah, Kinsley and an expected granddaughter. She is also survived by her brothers, James "Jim" Bishop (Kathy) and Robert "Robbie" Bishop (Susan), as well as her dear friend, Dianne Greene.

In addition to her husband, Micky F. Johnson, Sr., she is preceded in death by a son, Claude Robert Johnson and her stepfather, Larry "Punk" Summer.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday morning, June 22, 2024, at Rosemont Cemetery.

The family will gather for visitation from 5-7 p.m., Friday evening, June 21, 2024, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.

The family would also like to thank the staff of White Oak Manor, Dr. Bernardo, Laura Odom NP, and Bernardo Hospice Nurse, Kelly Hamilton, RN; for the exemplary care and compassion shown to Marie and her family during her illness.
