Andy Fliss Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic loss of our son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Andy M. Fliss, on Sept. 16, 2021. Andy was born on Dec. 7, 1969, to Peter and Louise Fliss in New Britain, Conn., where he spent his entire life. He was a true "hard-hitting New Britainite." He graduated from New Britain High School in 1987. Andy worked in the carpet industry his whole life starting in sales at Goldsmith's before moving on to Epstein Brothers and eventually starting his own business, Andy Fliss Flooring, to do installation.

Andy loved sports, especially baseball and football. He played in the Fagan Little League as a child and coached there as an adult. He also played on the New Britain Raiders youth football team and New Britain High football team. He loved playing cards, especially poker with the same gang (plus or minus a guy here or there) for more than 30 years. His ultimate passion was fishing whether it was on a quiet lake or the open ocean.

Andy leaves behind, to mourn his loss, his wife Cheryl and his three children, who were his pride and joy: Alexia Fliss, Justin Fliss and Aiden Fliss, all of New Britain. He also leaves behind his loving parents Peter and Louise Fliss, his mother-in-law Carol Heller, as well as his siblings and in-laws, Peter and Michelle Fliss, Thomas and Mary Fliss, Christine and Rick Olson, Mike and Jeanne Heller, Sue and Kevin Brigandi, Sandy and Lee Roski, and Kim Heller and Robbie Metevier. He will also be missed and remembered by his godparents Alan and Janet Parker and many loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Andy was predeceased by his father-in-law, Jim Heller and his grandparents, John and Constance Bocwinski and John and Anna Fliss.

A Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, Sept. 24 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Road, New Britain, CT. Please go directly to the church. Visitation hours will be Thursday, Sept. 23 from 4-7 p.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to "Fliss Children Memorial Fund" and sent to TD Bank, 1127 Farmington Avenue, Berlin, CT 06037. Please share a memory of Andy with the family in the online guest book at www.ericksonhansen.com

Andy.. I heard that you have passed. I was shocked and saddened to hear this awful news. I realized that we have known each other since we were in 4th grade, and we have been friends ever since. We would hang around way back in the day at my house or yours, or we´d walk to the park, the arcade and probably even Jake´s. Even though we had drifted apart as the years passed, it was always a pleasant surprise when we would bump into each other. I was driving my car just a few days ago and the song "Fly Like An Eagle" by Steve Miller came in the radio, I immediately thought of you Andy, as I looked up, I was driving by your good friend John(Butch)Kumitis´ house and I thought to myself that perhaps you are an Eagle now flying above to console your family and friends that you left behind here on Earth. I can only imagine all the questions that will perhaps remain forever unanswered. I choose to remember your life, rather than the way you passed. I choose to think of you as an Eagle flying above your family and friends, protecting them against harm and keeping them strong as they live through this unimaginable pain, grief and loss.
To the Fliss family.. the entire Clinch/Kozikowski Families will keep you in their thought and prayers, and we send our deepest and sincerest condolences.
Andy... Fly my old friend... fly like an Eagle to the sea..
