Judy Oviatt Obituary

Judy Kropf Oviatt, 82, of New Britain, passed away on Dec. 7, 2020. She was predeceased by her parents Grace and Joseph Kropf and her ex-husband Ted Oviatt. Judy and Ted began their life together living in Auxerre, France where Ted was a visiting fellow and Judy developed a life-long love of cooking. They spent the next decades living in Dallas, Annapolis and on Long Island where Ted was headmaster at various schools and where Judy volunteered while also creating beautiful homes for their family. Together they had four children – Wendy Pias, Ted Oviatt, Jill Oviatt and Peter Oviatt. Her grandchildren Kyle, Evan, Brett, Sophie, Nicola and Rebekah, and great-granddaughter, Margot were her pride and joy. Judy also leaves behind her siblings Karen Hylen, Hank Kropf and Heidi Kropf and many nieces and nephews including her special buddies Mariel and Will Bergeron.
Judy attended the University of Connecticut majoring in Psychology and Addiction Treatment and spent many years working and helping people in that area. On her own, Judy lived on Block Island and Old Saybrook enjoying the peace of her surroundings. Twenty years ago, she moved back to New Britain - the city she loved most. Judy loved to cook for her friends at the Erwin Home and lively political conversations were often part of their shared time together. Her friends at Erwin - Tim, both Dianes, Judy and Avis were like family.

Judy and I have been friends since 7th grade. Though she often lived far away, we managed to keep in touch, especially when she moved back to New Britain. As I think back on our relationship, I'm alternately laughing and crying. Judy had a wonderful sense of humor and could always make me laugh with her witty comments or hilarious cartoons. We spent many silly and mischievous moments together as girls and shared a warm friendship beyond that. I will surely miss her.
