David Kullgren Obituary

David Einer Kullgren
David Einer Kullgren, 80, of New Milford, CT, died at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center on September 11, 2020. He was born in Mount Vernon, NY, on May 28, 1940, son of the late Harry and Martha (Nils) Kullgren. He was a graduate of Edison Tech High School, class of 1958 and received a bachelor's degree from Drew University in 1962.
David was a parishioner of the New Milford United Methodist church where he was an active member of the men's club and helped lead selling Christmas trees and placing them on the town green every year.
David worked for the Social Security Administration for 40 + years and managed the Danbury, Norwalk and Bridgeport offices at different times. He was very active in his community as a driver for the Wheels program and volunteered at the polls every year.
Most importantly, David was a devoted family man who loved spending time with those he loved. He loved traveling to UConn basketball games around the country with his late wife Jean and friends rooting the Huskies to numerous championships.
Dave is survived by his brother George Kullgren of Westminster, MD, his children, Tom and his wife Amy of West Hartford, CT, David and his wife Nicole of Newtown, CT and Jennifer and her husband David of New Milford, CT, and 7 grandchildren Aleksey, Travis, Emma, Avery, Samantha, Sara and Cameron.
A private burial will be take place at the New Milford United Methodist Church on a date to be determined. A celebration of his life will be scheduled sometime next year when the Covid-19 crisis is past.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Food Bank of the New Milford United Methodist Church, checks can be made out to NMUMC-Our Daily Bread and mailed to: New Milford United Methodist Church, 68 Danbury Road, New Milford, CT 06776.

We will miss Mr. Kullgren greatly. We have had the pleasure of living across the street for a great many years. We loved helping clear his driveway on snow covered mornings as he shared his own fresh baked Pepparkakor (ginger cookies) with us and a bottle of the Swedish Glogg he and his family traditionally made together at every Christmas. He was a wonderful example for all.

David and I knew each other, while growing up , when the Kullgrens lived in Mt. Vernon. Our families moved and we lost track of one another. After meeting David and his wife Jean, more than 50 years later, I found the same warmth and caring qualities that I remembered from many years ago also found in his dad Harry and mother Martha. I am sure that same warmth and caring has been passed down from generation to generation in the Kullgren family. David will be missed, but has left to us the gift of being a fine example of how to live our lives.

I have lots of good memories of Dave. He always stepped right up when asked to lead the congregation in prayer, scripture, or greet newcomers. He joked about people asking him to "speed up" his stories, but Dmitted he couldn'tdo that. He made sure we were informed about meetingz with the district and coordinated rides. We joked, he was knowledgeable, realistic, and with humor. Dave guided youth of all ages. When I asked him to talk about his history with our church he not only talked about his history but interviewed others. Dave was a most wonderful soul. He is. Missed but know he is enjoyinghis new adventure

Tom, David & Jenn,

My heart is heavy to hear that Uncle Dave has passed, but I am grateful that he is at peace in Heaven, reunited with Aunt Jean, Uncle Harry, and Aunt Martha.

I don't have a single Christmas memory, from childhood through adulthood, that doesn't have Uncle Dave in it. I feel very fortunate that I, along with Taylor and Chloe, got to visit with him one last time this past Christmas before Covid-19 hit.

I will always remember Uncle Dave as one of the kindest, most patient, biggest hearted souls I have ever met. Plus, he had that trademark Kullgren sense of humor!

May he rest in eternal peace. I am truly sorry that with Covid-19, it is highly unlikely that I will be able to travel East for a memorial service. Please know that I will be there in spirit.

Wishing you peace at this time of mourning.

Love, Cousin Kathy Hoke

Hello Jen, I just heard about your Dad's passing today. It was brought up at church. I haven't seen you in a long long time but having worked with your mother for so long I never forgot you or your dad. Please accept my prayers in my condolences. He was a great man. I share my condolences with the rest of your family as well. Take good care.
