MAHOMET - Janis Lea Mason, 61, died on the evening of Dec. 18, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Friends may greet the family from 3-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at Mahomet Christian Church, 908 N. Lake of the Woods Road, Mahomet. Burial will be private. Blair-Owens Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jan was born on Nov. 8, 1963, in Champaign, to James (Bill) and Annice (Lucy) Stauffer. Jan's beloved children, Sara (26) and Caleb (23) died with her on Dec. 18. She was preceded in death by her father, brother-in-law (Roger Taylor) and nephew (Travis Stauffer).
Jan received a bachelor's degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University. She was known by everyone that grew up in Mahomet during the last 20 years, due to her active involvement with her kids' school activities and her role at Kangaroo Kids. Most recently she was working at the UI in the business office.
She is survived by her mother, Lucy; her siblings, Robert (Helen) Stauffer, Anita Taylor, Steve (Shirley) Stauffer, and Judy Stauffer; seven nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and -nephews, another great-niece due in February, along with a host of close friends that will miss her smile and infectious laugh. Janis always had a way of making everyone feel special.
Memorials can be made to the Mahomet-Seymour Education Foundation, the University of Illinois Foundation or the Mason Family Memorial fund at Fisher National Bank.
