HIGHLAND BEACH, Fla. – Michael James Tobin, 63, of Highland Beach, Fla., died Sunday (May 11, 2008) in Florida.
He was born May 14,1944, in Jacksonville, the son of Edward B. and Genevieve "Betty" Vaniter Tobin. He married Barbara McGuire on Nov. 22, 1969, in Rhode Island. She survives.
He is also survived by one son, Michael, of Delray Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Marni O'Dell (husband Danny) of Orange County, Calif., and Meaghan Tobin of Charleston, S.C.; three grandchildren, Tobin, Talan and Teagan O'Dell, all of Orange County, Calif.; his mother, Betty Tobin of Jacksonville; one brother, William E. Tobin of Grapevine, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Judith Gruber.
Mr. Tobin was a 1962 graduate of Routt High School and served in the U.S. Navy. Honorably discharged, he then pursued a career in cosmetology opening many hair salons in the Springfield area. In 1985, Mr. Tobin moved his family to Champaign and opened several salon distributing stores. In 2001, semi-retirement brought Mr. Tobin to Highland Beach, Fla., in order to follow his dream of becoming a real estate agent with Re/MAX Advantage Plus. There he won many awards including Capitol Club (2004), Re/MAX 100 percent Club (2003, 2004, 2006) and Platinum Club (2005), the highest honor Re/MAX bestows on a single sales associate.
A funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Our Saviour Church, Jacksonville. There will be no visitation. Condolences may be sent to Barbara Tobin, 3009 South Ocean Blvd. No. 205, Highland Beach, FL, 33487.

Our deepest sympthay to Mike's entire family. As a husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, he will be missed by many. I will always treasure our races from Springfield to Jacksonville and all the good times at work at Town and Country in the early 60's.

Sad to hear of Michael's passing. His picture is hanging with others on my wall from Wanda Hopper Lowes Dance Studio. My nephew Chris Thomas ownes the building that held the Studio which brings back lots of memories. Dorothy and I will have you all in our prayers. Harlan
