CHARLES KINCAID Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Eugene Kincaid, 85, passed away on May 6th, 2013 in Eagle River, Alaska, where he joined his daughter and son-in-law in 2012, after living in DeLand, Florida since 1947. He was born October 24th, 1927 in Petty Township, Illinois to Dorsey Newton Kincaid and Lydia Estelle Allen Kincaid. Charles thoroughly enjoyed his 30 year career as a sales representative for Duval Spirits, Inc. He possessed a very strong work ethic and formed long-term friendships with his co-workers. He loved being able to travel and meet so many different people and often said he felt extremely lucky that doing his job "rarely felt like work." Stationed in Korea from 1950 to 1952, Charles' efforts in the U.S. Army provided fresh water to fellow soldiers. Charlie was an avid golfer, who began caddying as a teenager in Ohio. He played golf nearly every weekend, had a powerful drive, and even scored a hole-in-one at DeLand Country Club. Golfing was a family affair for Charlie and his son, Charles Mark Kincaid, who has followed in his father's footsteps as an outstanding golfer. Another passion of Charlie's was his weekly poker game. Hanging on his wall were the cards from the night he had a royal flush, along with the signatures of the members of his long time poker club: Tony Buzzanca, Ray Doyle, Bob Heebner, Joe Ostermann, Mike Prelec and Warren Tiller. For decades, Charlie dedicated himself to taking care of others, delivering several days a week for Meals-on-Wheels. He also volunteered as an election poll worker, and loved to sell tickets at the Daytona Beach Speedway. Charles had an infectious laugh, and was a member of the Elks, NRA, Moose and VFW. A passionate Republican, he enjoyed politics, history and geography. His music tastes encompassed everything from country to big band. He led an effort to establish Johnson Field and a men's softball league in the late 1950's. Growing up in Cincinnati, he was a fan of the Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes, as well as the Florida Gators. Charles graduated from Madeira High School in Ohio in 1946. He met Eleanor Graham at Stetson University and they were married from 1958 to 1980. She remains in DeLand. Charles is also survived by his son, Charles Mark Kincaid of DeLand, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Joe Rubel of Eagle River, AK; sister, Doris Sporing of Loveland, OH; brother and sister-in-law, Dorsey Allen Kincaid and Bernice Kincaid of Orlando, FL; brother Virgil Kincaid of Sunrise, FL; and granddaughter, Kendall Kincaid of Atlantic Beach, FL. Services will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2013 at 11a.m. at Lankford Funeral Home, located at 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand, FL 32724, (386) 734-2244.
