ROBERT MORRIS Obituary

Robert E. Morris Jr. entered eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 29 after a nine year battle with cancer. During his 58 years of life he never wavered from his love and dedication to his family and friends and he will forever have a place in our hearts. A native Floridian he moved from St. Petersburg to Ormond Beach and attended Seabreeze Jr. High and Sr. High., graduating in 1972. He then attended Daytona Beach Community College receiving an A.A. in 1975 and was graduated from Stetson University in 1978 with a B.A. in business and accounting. From an early age, he worked side by side with his father in the company business R.E. Morris and Sons which he now leaves behind for his family to continue the legacy. When not working he could be found at the hand ball courts where he formed lasting friendships and was able to continue playing throughout all of his recent health battles. It is at the hand ball courts that he met his wife, Sandy and they shared 28 years of marriage and were blessed with three loving children, Tanya, Nicole and Michael and one grandchild, Maclin, born to Nicole several months ago. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Morris who he was dedicated to caring for since the loss of his father in 1996. Other family members include his brother Gary Morris, half sisters Linda Lyle and Marsha Hassel and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 7 at 10 AM at Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, 105 Amsden R.d, Ormond Beach, FL 32176 to celebrate his life. Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society.

Dear Sandy,
My Mom and I were shocked to hear the news from Gary that Booby had passed. He was my childhood friend and I loved him dearly. He was kind and smart and I will never forget him and his family. Mom and I loved Betty and Bob,and Gary. We went to visit them when they first moved to Ormond Beach. We went to the Boardwalk and had a great time. I'm sorry we found out so late and wish there had been something we could have done. He is now in heaven and will be missed. Bless you and your family.Prayers are with you.

We have known Bob for 7 years or more and that entire time he was battling cancer with more grace and dignity than anyone we have ever known. As a fellow handball player my husband Ramon and I's spirits were automatically lifting when getting to the courts and seeing Bob there with his gloves on. Bob made you want to play harder on the courts and off, to be a better person. One of my greatest memories of Bob was seeing him hug his daughter Nicole after winning the doubles Florida State Four Wall tournament with my husband Ramon. Something that Bob had told us was on his bucket list and had eluded him all these years. The trophy hangs on our wall as a precious memory of the courage and fight that Bob quietly and with integrity possessed.
As another player has stated a champion plays in heaven now.
