GARY MOORE Obituary

GARY DON MOORE Gary Don Moore, born May 27, 1947, to Walter and Elsie (Gibson) Moore in Shawnee, Okla. went to be with his Lord on September 10, 2023. He was surrounded by his wife Cheri, son Dax, daughter Holly and sister Kathy. Also by his wonderful caregivers at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb. Gary sustained multiple injuries in a motorcycle accident on August 1, 2023, in Oberlin, Kan. and was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney where he received many surgeries and procedures. After many complications and with his wife and children, Dax and Holly traveling from their homes in Oklahoma to be with him he fought the good fight and never gave up the struggle to survive. Gary graduated from Shawnee High School in 1965 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1970. He was a Vietnam veteran. He was also a member of Northeastern Oklahoma Miata Club, AHRMA(American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association), American Motorcycle Association. Gary had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed playing golf with his son and other family members and friends, doing woodcraft projects and searching for treasures in estate sales. BUT...his primary hobby was flat track motorcycle racing. He enjoyed this hobby beginning at age 14 and continued to enjoy this until age 76. He enjoyed mostly the lifelong friendships he established through this 60 year span of racing, one of his favorite memories was in 1964 winning the Tri State Championship TT Scrambles at the John Zink Ranch. Gary worked in the field of finance in the auto division for most of his professional career, retiring in 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, mother-in-law and father-in-law and one nephew Gary is survived by his wife Cheri, son Dax (Brea), daughter Holly (Sean), and grandchildren Chloe Moore, Mylo Phillips and Landon Edwards of Broken Arrow, Okla. He is also survived by brothers Kenny (Greta) of Houston, Texas and Terry (Evelyn) of Parkton, N.C.; sister Kathy (Dwayne) of Sandsprings, Okla.; brothers-in-law Steve Chambless (Karen) of Broken Arrow, Kevin Chambless of Shawnee, Dennis Bryant (Tracy) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 11 nieces, 12 nephews, two aunts, one uncle; and numerous lifelong friends. A Memorial Service will be held in Broken Arrow on September 30, 2023, at Cedar Ridge Christian Church at 1 p.m. with Associate Pastor John Winstead officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Memory of Gary to The American Cancer Society, DAV or Folds of Honor.
