January 19, 1927 - September 7, 2020
Roberta Lee Whitehead Vaughan, 93, of Lynchburg, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020, at Carriage Hill Assisted Living in Bedford. She was the wife of the late Dewey Burton Vaughan. Born on January 19, 1927, in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Robert Whitehead and the late Ruth Gibbons Jones Whitehead.
Roberta was a nurse's aide and provided a home for the elderly for many years. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.
In addition to her husband and parents, Roberta was preceded in death by a son, Dwayne Carter; two sisters, Madeline C. Whitehead and Barbara W. Morris; and two grandsons, Mark Pickrel and R. Justin Stevens.
Roberta is survived by four children, Joan Agee and husband, Roger, of Gladys, Jean Nowakowski of Forest, Kenneth Vaughan of Rustburg, and Linda Rebecca "Becky" Denham of Wilson, N.C.; one sister, Eliza Baldwin of Nelson; four grandchildren, Joseph "Scott" Pickrel of Concord, Damon Stevens of Arlington, Kenneth L. Vaughan Jr. of Lynchburg, and Stephanie Denham of Wilson, N.C.; six great grandchildren; and other loving family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Carriage Hill Assisted Living for all their loving care of Roberta in her final years.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home in Roseland, by the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald with interment in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Roseland.
Due to covid, there will not be a family night. Masks will be required and covid guidelines are in place.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 189, Roseland, VA 22967.
Whitten Park Avenue Chapel, Lynchburg, and Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, Roseland, are serving the family.
