Dillard Franklin Obituary

Dillard Leslie Franklin

Dillard Leslie Franklin, 82, of Appomattox, Va, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Margie Megginson Franklin for 51 years.

Born in Appomattox, Va, on January 2, 1943, he was the son of the late Mattie Carwile Franklin and the late Robert Sterling Franklin. He served his country in the US Army in Vietnam. Dillard enjoyed farming and was passionate about deer and turkey hunting. He was a member of A & B Hunting Club. In 2004, he harvested a deer that scored 1st place in the state for its size. Many tall tales about hunting were fabricated by Dillard (in the shed).

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Dillard retired after 30 years serving as a mail carrier for USPS, where he enjoyed all the relationships he made with the customers along his mail route.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Franklin of Appomattox; two grandchildren, Kendall and Mac; one sister-in-law, Shirley Franklin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stratton and Raymond Franklin; and one sister Catherine McFall.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Hollywood Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Bob Yeaman. Burial will follow in Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home from 5 to 7 pm, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, and other times at the residence.

Robinson Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family. An online condolence may be sent by visiting www.robinsonfuneral.com.

Margie & Kimberly,

Dillard will be missed so much. Wesley and I are so heart broken, Wes lost his best buddy. They were like brothers in their younger years and like Father and Son later. Wes has so many stories of his memories with D-1 and I'veheard them all. Dillard was his go to for so much especially all of his knowledge. Will definitely miss him coming to the shed every evening for their "shed talks" and I'll miss our pumpkin competitions each year. Blessed to call you all family. We love ya'll so much and we are here as always for anything ya'll need.

I think all of us who grew up in Hollywood Baptist Church remembers Dillard's mischievous, grinning smile. Margie and family, I am so sad and sorry that Dillard has passed away. But I am sure he is in the arms of Jesus explaining why it's important to shoot a deer each day of hunting season (not). May Jesus comfort all of you during this sad time.
