Maxine Taylor Obituary

Maxine Beard Taylor

Maxine "Aunt Mac" Beard Taylor, 90, of Madison Heights, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born December 8, 1933, in Amherst County, to the late Layward Bryant Beard and the late Minnie Walker Myers Beard.

She was the devoted wife of the late Edward Patrick "Pat" Taylor, Jr.; they had been married for 63 years upon his passing in 2016. She will live on in the precious memories of her daughter, Krista Taylor Templeton, and her husband, Kenneth, of Madison Heights. She is survived by her sister as well, Peggy Wood, of Richmond; nephew, Robert Wood and his wife, Lisa; and their children, Ashley and Zoey of Inverness, IL. She will always be deep in the hearts of her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, other nephews, numerous cousins and special friends. She is already dearly missed by our family cat, KiKi, who has certainly noted her absence.

"Mac" was beautiful inside and out. She always had a kind, warm smile. She made anyone she met feel comfortable. She was a strong-willed woman…a fighter…and very independent. She always gave of herself and always did for others before thinking of herself. She was a great listener…someone one could always trust. She was one of a kind! She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, caregiver and friend. She retired from Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation as a hard-working, dedicated employee, until they locked their doors one final time. But, she truly treasured her second career for 16 additional years as a faithful caregiver to Kathy who adored her in return. She was a loyal friend and could often be found quietly chatting one-on-one with someone at a gathering. She was a welcoming hostess and creative cook. She was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

"Mac" loved vacationing in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and walking the beaches of St. Pete Beach, FL…anywhere Dad was travelling…we were going. She loved long country drives, listening to any kind of music and counting cows, beautiful flowers and adventures in ice cream. She was always impeccably dressed and enjoyed picking out matching scarves and jewelry!

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, July 5th, at the Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at their residence.

A private family graveside service will be conducted at a later date.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution in Maxine's honor may consider Emmanuel Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Maxine was my next door neighbor for many years and a great friend. I have so many wonderful memories of her. She and Pat have always been our friends from day one when they built their house across from mine. I will miss seeing her out on the porch at various times just sitting and enjoying the fresh air. She always had that sweet smile. She loved flowers so I would plant some for her to be able to see from her porch. She was a very special friend and I will miss her dearly.
