Anthony Vernava Obituary

VERNAVA - Anthony M., Esq. , on April 7, 2007, of New Hyde Park, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Michigan, with his beloved fiancee, Peggy Williams, at his side. Also survived by his daughter, Marissa of Michigan, Grace of Wisconsin, and his son, Dr. Anthony Vernava of Florida. Anthony completed his undergraduate B.S. degree from Georgetown in 1959, J.D. degree, Magna cum Laude from Harvard University in 1962 to follow with his LLM from NYU in 1965. Anthony worked as a Corporate Tax Attorney for the firm Reit Priest on Wall Street to later become one of the youngest Asst. Deans at the University of Detroit where he continued as a Law professor for 10 years, in later years he continued as a visiting distinguished Law professor for many prestigious universities. He believed in helping others and was involved in charity and economic works in Lima, Peru. Among his many accomplishments, he has been published in many tax and law journals, including the Columbia Law Review. Visitation will be held at Fairchild Chapel in Garden City, Franklin Avenue at 12th Street, Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, 9:45 AM, at Corpus Christi Church, Mineola, N.Y. Inurnment will take place on Saturday at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, N.Y.

I had Professor Vernava for a Tax course at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, in 1969. The man was brilliant, simply brilliant. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.
