I was so sorry to hear about Chris. I had the privilege of spending about five days with him back in January when he came up to our house in New Hampshire to visit with my son and four other classmates from Bucknell. I had a lot in common with Chris. I too grew up on Long Island and I too went to Green Vale School. We had some fun conversations about that. More importantly I remember him zooming down the slopes at Loon Mountain as he whizzed past his fellow Bucknellians. And I remember also his crafty racquet skills as we played a lot of paddle tennis that week. He was a wonderful young man - fun, cheerful, full of life. I still can't believe he's not with us. The picture is a memory of that wonderful time in New Hampshire. My heart goes out to his family, his friends and his brothers at FIJI at Bucknell.

Love and miss you, Shea.

When I got my list of freshman year hall-mates during the summer upon entering college, I was unbelievably excited when I saw Chris Shea's name. I had heard amazing things about him from our mutual friends, who said that he was definitely someone to make sure I become friends with. And I was lucky enough to experience his magic firsthand: he immediately introduced himself on move-in day/made it a point to befriend everyone in our orientation group, warmly invited the entire hall to hang out in his room during every single one of the first nights of college, and made thoughtful comments in our foundation seminar. Without question he was my first college crush. Many people recall their first weeks of college as scary, unfamiliar, and at times lonely, but Chris had a remarkable gift of changing this status quo. It was hard not to light up entirely when speaking to Chris. Everyone who spoke to him was automatically drawn to his charisma --not to mention, his eye contact in conversation allowed you to feel like everything you said mattered. Chris had the power to either infect you with laughter or engage you philosophically. (He was particularly philosophical when he had his signature glasses on.) Chris was the guy who danced tirelessly when everyone else felt uncomfortable in their own skin. He was one of the few people I've ever met who never needed others' approval. He knew he was legendary but never felt the need to brag. His personality could have you laughing and thinking for days... even weeks... I am so, unbelievably fortunate for all of the fond memories I have with him that extend throughout all of freshman year and into this year. I look-up to him in numerous ways and will never, ever forget him. If we follow his leadership, confidence, modesty, talent, humor, empathy, and intelligence to survive in all of us, we can keep him alive. His life was unimaginably short, but his impact on those who knew him was large enough to continue living and breathing --even though his body could no longer do so.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there; I did not die.[2]

So deeply sorry for your loss. We hope Andrew, William, Katy, and Robert, and all family and friends find strength at this difficult time.
