John Tyrie Obituary

TYRIE - John (Jack) , 79, passed suddenly from this life on February 24, 2007, reuniting him with his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Geraldine. Jack was a devoted caretaker for Geraldine during her yearlong battle with cancer. Born on October 15, 1927, the son of James and Catherine Turie, Jack was a native of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. He proudly served his country and community throughout his life. A decorated Veteran, he was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars. He was both a NYC Police officer and a lieutenant in the NYC Fire Department. His greatest love and devotion was reserved for his wife and their nine children. He leaves behind his heartbroken children, Jack (Patty) of Oswego, Kevin (Patti) of Parkland FL., Betty Ann (Peter) Massaro of Lindenhurst, Cathy (the late Bill) Lycke of Islip Terrace, Geraldine (Mike) Fillippone of North Babylon, Patricia (George) Colton of Lindenhurst, Jim (Jeannine) of West Islip, Brian (Ann) of West Islip, and Denise (Randy) DeVoe of Babylon. His generous spirit, loving nature and strength of character will forever inspire his twenty-nine grandchildren and one great-grandaughter. He was a loving brother to Eileen Diaz, Ann Marie (Steve) Remillard, the late Catherine (Ed) Ciminski and James Tyrie. He was a loving brother-in-law of George (Eileen) Mullins, Dick (Anna) Mullins, and the late Dottie Tormey, Eddie Damore, Patrick Mullins, and Larry Mullins. "Uncle Jackie" shared his wisdom and love with all of his nieces and nephews, embracing their strengths and weaknesses, through the grace of God. Mom and Dad, "Our tears will not run dry; for we will continue to cry; may you sleep the sleep of peace." Reposing Thursday 2-4 and 7-9:30PM, Lindenhurst Funeral Home, Inc. 424 S. Wellwood Ave., Lindenhurst. Mass of Christian Burial Friday 10AM, Our Lady of Grace RC Church, West Babylon. Interment Calverton National Cemetery.

Dear Patricia Colton and family:

Your friends of Wellbrock Street wish to extend their condolences once again for yet another loss. We were so sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. Know that your friends are here for you, should you need an ear or a shoulder to cry on. You're all the best neighbors to all of us. To The Tyrie Family
I can not tell you how much your parents meant to me. When my son was deploy your parents where there for me always checking to see it he was alright and when my mom got sick they where there for my family. I will miss looking outside my window and seening your dad walking. They were just so wonderful and accepting people they will be very miss and they were loved God really bless us with them.
