Michael Ricigliano Obituary

Ricigliano - Michael J. "Do good and leave the rest to God." Michael J. Ricigliano learned these words as a young boy growing up in Uniondale. He repeated these words over and over again to his children. And he lived by these words all his life. Husband, brother, father, and grandfather, Michael passed away on March 2 with his family by his side.

Michael Joseph Ricigliano was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 10, 1935, the son of Rose and Antonio Ricigliano. He attended Hempstead High School where he was a star athlete, and St. John's University where he was the captain of the baseball team. He was signed to play minor league baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers and a year later attended St. John's Law School.

After starting his legal career, he met the love of his life, Michele Murtha. They married on September 29, 1962 and he spent the next 59 years with his best friend at his side. In 1963, Michael joined the law firm that would later become Margiotta and Ricigliano.

Michael was a founding member of the Dante Scholarship Foundation. He was honored by the American Committee on Italian Migration, was inducted into the St. John's University Athletic Hall of Fame, and awarded the St. John's Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award. He served on the Boards of the Uniondale Public Library and the Hempstead Golf Club and was long-time counsel to the Town of Hempstead Housing Authority.

Michael is survived by his wife Michele, his children Francis (Anne) Ricigliano, Andrea (William) Creaser, Michael (Jeanne) Ricigliano, his grandchildren Kathryn, Kristina, Eileen, Robert, Anna, Michael, Ava, and Luke, his sister

Angela Betscha, and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Friday, March 4 at Fairchild Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Garden City at 9:30 am on Saturday, March 5 with burial to follow at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.
