To Shawn's family,
I was here (page 13) last year, to express my condolences.
I am revisiting your memorial book today, saying a prayer for you, and hoping that your memories of Shawn have brought smiles and peace in the midst of the longing and missing his physical presence. My son Nathan graduated from Boot Camp on May 9, 2008, and one week later we learned about your loss. It was shocking to me, as I was still trying to adjust to letting go of my only son, who was following his dreams. May God continue to bring you comfort and peace.
Sincerely,
Heloisa Wade and family

Dear Carol & Family ... We are both shocked and deeply saddened by the news of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Carol, Mrs. Minori, Melissa and the rest of the family, as well. I am enclosing a Native American Prayer .. I hope it brings even some small measure of comfort ....
In memory of Shawn ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I give you this one thought to hold and to keep –
I am with you still – I do not sleep!
I am a thousand winds that faithfully blow,
I am the diamond glints on fresh fallen snow,
I am the sunlight on golden ripened grain,
I am the gentle and steady fresh autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft bright stars that watch over you each night.
Do not think of me as perished, for I am not gone –
I am with you still – in the warming glow of each new dawn.
Godspeed Shawn
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
My heart goes out to Shawns family althought he was only a sailor for a short time, to the navy community he will always be one of the brave that chose to do something wonderful for his country. Although he was not with us long, to those of us who are military moms, he will always be in our hearts. And we know that while god gave him to his family for a short while, he is with god now. God Bless you in your time of loss.
Madigan Family,
Shawn was a bright and shining light. He was laughter, sunshine, and rainbows. He was the boy that came with the house and we loved him.
He loved the water. He launched a row boat in our back yard during a Spring storm and high tide. He looked so cute trying to paddle that boat through the yard.
When he got a little older, Shawn walked in and announced that he wanted a real boat? He said, "They said, I can have one if I can buy one." We laughed. But we should have known better. He moved heaven and hell to raise the money. He cut bait on Captain Lou, bused tables at JC Cove, shoveled snow and cut grass. He did whatever he could to make money and low and behold ... he got himself a boat! A sixteen foot canal cruiser and off he went. He was a sailor from day one.
He was the kind of kid who would make a decision and make it happen. He was a gift to us all.
His legacy will live on..every time we succed. Whenever we face the world with a smile and determination...we will honor his memory.
When we hear the waves wash the shore, we will hear his gentle voice. When the wind is out of the south and the ocean is still, we will be comforted by his warmth and know he is at peace.
May God Bless You and Keep You. We pray for you and for Shawn. Our special angel.
