Terrence G. Pearsall

PEARSALL - Terrence G., 81, of Yaphank, formerly of Patchogue, entered into Eternal Life on February 21, 2023. Beloved father of Terry, Jr. (Amy), Jeff (Tracy Weiss), and Todd (April), Houng Lee, Luong Lee, and Thai Auyoung. Adored grandfather of Jenna, Aidan, Amaya, Amanda, Victoria, Grant, Daniella, Kyleigh, Samantha, and Brandon. Dear brother of Sue Ann. After 40 years of unwavering commitment to serving the communities of Suffolk County, Terry started his career in 1974 as a young Democratic activist. His zeal and determination were recognized by the Democratic Chairman who advanced Terry into the First Legislature Aide's position of the newly formed Suffolk County Legislature. Overseeing 18 legislative districts and over 80 individuals, Terry was known as the heart and soul of the legislature, leaving behind several noteworthy accomplishments. Terry was part of the team that visited and accessed the Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant Disaster and ultimately used the findings to stop the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant from ever becoming operational. He also developed the legislation that restricted and banned smoking in public places in Suffolk County, along with many other accomplishments in his public service. On October 23, 2014, otherwise known in the legislature as "Terrence G. Pearsall Day," Terry retired as Chief of Staff of the Suffolk County Legislature proudly serving throughout his career: Islip Town Chair 1970s, Minority Aid to the Democratic Caucus 1972, Clerk to the Legislature 1976-1977, Worked for legislators Linton, Foley, Bredes, Guldi, and Lindsay, spanning 1978-2002, Deputy County Executive under County Exec Halpin 1988-1991, and Chief of Staff for Presiding Officers Lindsey, Horsley, and Gregory. In addition to this, Terry also served on the board of directors for the Vanderbilt Museum. Terry will be forever loved and deeply missed by every life that he inspired through his dedication to public service. The family will receive friends at Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home, 448 W. Main Street, Babylon, Sunday, February 26, 2023, 2-4:30 pm and 7-9:30 pm. Funeral service at 11:15 am, Monday, February 27, 2023, at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
