Charlie Dunklin Obituary

Deacon Charlie "Charlie Man" Dunklin Jr. was born Dec. 31, 1931, in Selma, Ala., to the late Charlie Sr. and Lillie Bell Katts Dunklin. Deacon Dunklin was called home Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Bay Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He resided in Springfield (Bay Harbor), Fla., for many years and was a longtime employee of Sike's Concrete Co. He was a faithful member of Grove Temple First Born Church, where he served as a dedicated and hard-working deacon until his health began to diminish.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Moore and Willie Harris Dunklin; three sisters, Betty Harris, Juanita Dunklin and Mary Suddith; and one granddaughter, Demetrius Lavette Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Luvenia; 10 children, Peggie Davis (Ray), Ray Dunklin (Margaret), Fannie Mitchell (Kenneth), Betty Ford (Rubin), Rosezene Dunklin (Charles), Edward Dunklin, Donna Kent (Melvin), Kyle Dunklin (Latisha), all of Panama City, Fla., Don Dunklin (Rebecca) of Quantico, Va., and Eleanor Hewitt (Elvis) of Fort Knox, Ky.; beloved grandson, Fredrick Norton of Panama City, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Dunklin of Blountstown, Fla.; four sisters, Lillie Mathis (Andrew), Rosa Broxton, Betsy Peterson (Fred), all of Panama City, Fla., and Dorthy Hatcher (AC) of Montgomery, Ala.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Deacon Dunklin will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Neal Temple First Born Church of the Living God, 900 E. 11th St., Panama City, Fla., with Bishop S.J. Williams, pastor, and Jr. Bishop Walter P. Henry officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Panama City, Fla. Public visitation for viewing will begin from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Dec. 18, 2009, at Neal Temple First Born Church. The family also will receive friends at 5319 Garden Cove Road, Callaway, Fla.
