George Oravitz Obituary

COAL TOWNSHIP — George X. Oravitz, 89, of 2050 Trevorton Road, formerly of 510 S. Diamond St., Shamokin, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township.

He was born in Shamokin, Oct. 20, 1923, a son of the late Joseph G. and Veronica (Gessic) Oravitz.

He was a 1942 graduate of Shamokin High School.

George was enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Feb. 9, 1949, he married Gertrude R. (Stank) Oravitz, who passed away Dec. 3, 2001.

He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township.

Survivors include a son, Steve Oravitz and his wife, Bernadette, of Center Valley; two daughters, Susie Hudock and her husband, Andrew, of Wilkes-Barre, and Rosie Fullmer and her husband, Frank, of Shamokin; seven grandchildren, Major Kathryn Weeks and her husband, Joseph, Matthew Oravitz, Michael Oravitz, Johanna Hudock, Billie Hudock and his wife, Alicia, Amber Fullmer and Ian Fullmer, a great-granddaughter, Audrey Belle; two nieces, Barbara Kreitzer and Frances Filarski, and a sister, Theresa Zimmerman..

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph Oravitz, John Oravitz, Leo Oravitz and Bernard Oravitz, and five sisters, Veronica Siket, Mary Yocum, Delores Kazar, Pauline Price and Irene Lagerman.

ORAVITZ — George X. Oravitz, 89, of 2050 Trevorton Road, Coal Township, formerly of 510 S. Diamond St., Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Hope Church, 863 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township, with the Rev. Adrian Gallagher as celebrant. Calling hours will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin. A committal service with military honors will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Coal Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Our Lady Of Hope Church or Manna for the Many Food Bank, Shamokin.

So sorry to hear about "Uncle" George..I will always remember his BIG smile,whether he was making me a great milkshake or razzing me about Lourdes basketball! I always enjoyed going to the games with him and my dad and every memory of him brings a smile.We all loved him.Keeping you in my prayers..
