Lillian Miscavige Obituary

MOUNT CARMEL – Lillian A. Miscavige, 82, of 328 W. Third St., Mount Carmel, passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Mount Carmel Nursing Center.

Born in Mount Carmel, she was a daughter of the late Kazimierz and Boleslawa Koncewicz.

She attended Our Mother of Consolation School and was a 1943 graduate of Mount Carmel High School. She was known by everyone as a hard- working person, in community activities and for her family. Her early work experience included the General Cigar factory and the Arrow Shirt factory.

Her first husband, Vincent DeLuca, passed away Oct. 23, 1967. Lillian remained active in the community and helped many Polish immigrants settle in the Mount Carmel area by teaching them English and providing them financial assistance when necessary. Her dedication enabled them to find work and to establish their families as first-generation American citizens.

Lillian was proud of her Polish heritage and was instrumental in establishing and later serving as president of the Mount Carmel Area Polish Cultural Club and its many cultural and public service activities.

She will be sorely missed by a great many people, especially her immediate and extended family.

She is survived by Anthony Miscavige, whom she married in February 1980. His children are Daniel and Donna Miscavige of Weatherly, Anthony and Johanna Miscavige of Mechanicsburg, Gerard and Karen Miscavige of Mount Carmel, and Maria and Richard Urick of Elysburg.

Lillian is also survived by her daughter, Roseann Skocik and husband David of Dover, Del; grandson, Dr. Eric Skocik and his wife, Dr. Mimi Skocik of Dover, Del; Karen Brown and husband CW3 Gary, of Hopewell, Va; and Kristin Glover and husband Dennis of Independence, Ky. Great-grandchildren include Kelsey, Gavin and Nathan Brown, Ashley and Daven Glover, and Miya Skocik, as well as special nieces and nephews. Lillian was preceded in death by sisters, Edna and Martha and brothers, Stanley, John and Henry. She is survived by a brother, Frank Koncewicz, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; and sisters Catherine Jones of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Theresa Brown of Pennsauken, N.J.
