Logan Ricketts Obituary

Logan Garth Ricketts passed away Feb. 10, 2016.
Logan was born in Medford, Oregon, on April 26, 1967, to Ronald and Beverly Ricketts. Logan moved with his family to Fairbanks in 1968, where he remained a lifelong resident. His early years were preoccupied with eating candy, listening to KISS and learning how to play guitar. Logan was also active in alpine ski racing throughout his life, as both a competitor and a coach.
He graduated from Lathrop High School, and attended college at Southern Oregon State College and UAF. After college, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to form Interior AK Adventures, which specialized in guided fishing trips throughout the state. An accomplished guide, Logan was known by his clients for his strict adherence to maintaining pristine Alaskan lands, as well as his culinary and mixologist skills.
What will be remembered most, however, was his engaging personality and exceptional skill as a fisherman. He had few equals on the water, and was quick to offer advice to anyone in need. In addition to his guide business, Logan formed an alliance with Mok Kumagai, and together they built the Aurora Borealis Lodge which continues to host visitors from around the world. In 2007, Logan was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
For the remainder of his life, Logan persevered with great strength and courage, always planning for the future and never losing sight of having a good time with others. Friends and family accompanied him on trips to Whistler, Cancun, Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, and of course, numerous fishing trips throughout Alaska. The family is forever grateful to the many friends who accompanied him on those trips. The family would especially like to acknowledge the unwavering love and support from Mok and Akiko Kumagai, for which our thanks cannot be adequately expressed.
Logan is survived by his mother, Beverly; five brothers, Mike, Kevin and Matt Ricketts, and Jay and Craig Stuart; three sisters, Mary Seifert, Clare Jaramillo and Samantha Watnes; and his loyal 4-legged companion, Sitka.
A celebration of life is scheduled from 6 p.m. to midnight March 12 at the Fairbanks Curling Club.

The world lost a wonderful man! I had the honor of meeting Logan about 20 years ago. He was a joy to be around. He had an incredible zest for life, always positive and smiling. I am lucky to have crossed paths with such a wonderful person!

I have so fondly remember the day, skiing the big slopes of Anchorage, a young tow-headed blonde boy said he didn't know how to ride the chair lift. I talked him through getting on and riding to the top of Alyeska or Arctic Valley (I can't remember which). Oops, I forgot to tell him how to get off the chair. I skied off the ramp and looked at him, horrified for a moment, before yelling, "Jump Off!!!" Which he did with confidence and glee. We giggled and off he skied, leaving me in the dust trying to catch up to him. Never could...

Logan, hope the slopes you are skiing now are deep powder and the sun is shining on the tracks you leave. God bless.

Logan was a first boyfriend to me....more friend really. He came over for Easter one year and coming up from down stairs...my father looked over at him as we reached the top of the landing and he said to Logan " sir" and Logan saluted him. My dad always remembered that...even in his old years. It made him laugh every time. I seen Logan many years later and help him lay a few rows of flooring at the lodge...his outlook on life was amazing. You will always be remembered. My thoughts and prayers go to the Ricketts family.

Logan's infectious smile will forever live on! I will never forget being the new kid in AK during our early years and Logan & his buddies were always welcoming. Incredible memories shared & experienced growing up. His spirit and ambition shined over all of us. It was fun to watch his adventures through life.

Until we see each other again...RIP ole friend!

I met Logan when staying at Aurora Borealis Lodge in 2012 and 2014. Though our visits were brief, it was obvious he was a very caring person who was loved by many. I am sure he is remembered by visitors around the world.

To Logan's family and friends, I am so sorry for your great loss.

My son Jeff Hansen and Logan were high school buddies. I always enjoyed when he came to the house and he and Jeff would have a jam session. He was such a gentleman and so much fun to be around. I will never forget their goofy air guitar routine. My deepest sympathy to his family, though he can no longer physically be with us, the joy of knowing him is written in our heart.

Logan took us on an unforgettable four day trip down the Gulkana River. We had our camera crew from Fox 7 (Matt Want) on board and a couple of Radio and TV guys from Oregon. Never laughed so hard for four day's strait and Logan made it one of the best experiences in Alaska I have ever had and I have been exploring Alaska for over 35 years. There is actually a screenplay written that was inspired by that trip but has yet to be produced, written by(Brad Douglas). Logan was just cool, and we all wanted to be his friend. I hope to float the Gulkana this summer from the lake to Sourdough and stay at the same spots in memory of Logan.

Quick story,,, I will never forget him calling out a pair of very expensive sunglasses one of the lower 48 guys brought just for that trip, Logan said said "ahh those are nice" in response to the guy showing them off to everyone, Logan then responded, "are these polarized?" the guy said no. Logan slowly responded by handing them back to him and saying with his smirk, "hmmm, practically worthless" We all buckled over with laughter. It's a one liner about non polarized sunglasses on a fishing trip my whole family still uses today.

So sorry to hear of Logan passing on. What a long fight.

We worked together one summer years ago and we would go fishing after work. He had a canoe strapped to the roof of what I believe was his parents Volvo.

Logan was our neighbor on Lignite Ave when he was a little boy. We loved seeing him at our door. Such a fun loving cheerful little kid. He appeared one Christmas Eve took one look at our Christmas tree (. First one we ever bought our kids raised $ for it. They were sick of our "cat spruces" cut down in back woods). His comment which we remember to this day "that tree looks just like Fat Albert ". He certainly lived a full and adventuresome life. ALS Is a horrible desease. We are saddened to hear he was stricken with it.

It's sad to see such a vibrant, lively soul leave us so soon. I feel like he could have done so much more had he the time. And we all would have benefitted. Logan - you will be missed.

It is with the deepest sympathy that my heart goes out to Logan's family. Logan was a vibrant light in this world that will be missed dearly. I will never forget how much fun it was to fish with him on the Chena, the Situk, Willow Creek and our many Gulkana trips. He will forever be in my heart. God Bless.

Logan's trendsetting genius affected us Hamilton Acres kids from the start at Nordale where we gleaned an early appreciation of KISS, corduroy bell bottoms, and ski culture from him. Logan's charm, humor, and infectious zeal for life and adventure live on, and I will see him smiling across the slopes whenever I am out in the alpines.
