Glenn "Alan" Mize, Jr., 34, devoted father to Grace, loving husband to Blair and wonderful son and brother to Glenn, Betty and Marsha, left this world on Saturday, December 24th.

Alan was born in Greenville, NC but spent much of his child and adulthood living in Cary, NC. Graduate of Cary High School, Class of 2000 and NC State University, Class of 2004, he was an avid Wolfpack fan and sports lover.

Alan has worked for the State Employees Credit Union for the past 8 years. He loved being outdoors, whether on the water at Pine Knoll Shores or hunting in Sampson County, he was happiest at those times.

A celebration of Alan's life will be held Tuesday, December 27th at 3:00 PM at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, Raleigh, NC.

In Lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to a college fund for Alan and Blair's daughter, Grace. Checks may be made payable to the Grace Mize College Account.

Alan and I met back in 2003 while working at Lowes Foods on Tryon Road. After that I was at the Walnut St store and I would often pop in to the loss prevention office to chat with him. He was always someone who I was happy to overlap shifts with. Our relationship moved beyond work to include things like getting together to draft Fantasy Football teams at BW3.

He was a good guy and I'm very saddened by his passing. My thoughts will remain with his family, especially his daughter Grace.

Dear Mize Family...I was so shocked to hear of Alan's passing. Alan and I had developed a friendship a number of years ago when we met at Lowe's Foods in Cary where Alan was working. We would talk about Disney on Saturday's after I finished my food shopping. We would chat about recent or upcoming trips to Disney as well as our Disney memories. It was immediately obvious to me that Alan was a very good person and very dedicated to his family, friends and strong values. It can be so hard to face the new year without Alan, but faith and the love of family and friends will carry you through this most difficult time. I will miss Alan. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Mize Family,

I am so sad to learn of Alan's sudden death. As a regular customer at Lowe's I always enjoyed talking with him and getting progress reports on Grace's arrival. He was very friendly and enjoyable to be around and will be missed my so many.

To the Mize Family. I was a coworker with Alan at Lowe's Foods. I met him in June when I transferred to the Cary Store. I didn't realize it at first, but it dawned on me that he was the same person that had did my taxes for me at the State Employees Credit Union. I received the news when I arrived back in town to work last night. I was shocked and devastated. I was very fond of Alan and will miss him tremendously.
