Hank Redecker Obituary

Hank Redecker, Jr.

Youngsville

Hank Redecker, Jr., passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Transitions LifeCare, Raleigh, NC. He leaves behind his loving wife of 21 wonderful years, Moneta "Mo" Redecker and his two beautiful daughters, Bailey and Emily Redecker, who loved him more than anything. He will forever be in their hearts.

Hank was born 14 October 1961 to Henry Walter Redecker (deceased) and Christine Blalock Redecker of Raleigh. He is survived by two sisters, Joan Sims, Jane Speer and her husband, Jim; along with his nieces and nephews.

Hank graduated from Ravenscroft of Raleigh in 1980. As an ECU alum he lived the "Pirate's Life" as a member of the Pirate Club; with his love of family, friends, football, tailgating and all that is ECU! While a student at ECU, he earned a BA in Sociology, July 25, 1985, a BS in Business Administration with a concentration of Finance May 10, 1986, and a MBA, May 10, 1997. A member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity resulted in a group of close lifelong friends. Over the years, with Hank's "bigger than life" personality, he added many others to his circle in addition to his fraternity brothers. He often mentioned how fortunate he was to have such great friends.

The Redecker family would like to thank the Doctors and Staff at Duke/Raleigh Hospital and especially Hank's Hospice Nurse, Glenda. Glenda is a wonderful, kind, special person, who was a perfect match for his personality.

All of those who love Hank and his family are invited to dress in purple and gold for an "ECU tailgate" celebration of his life at the Boondocks, 201 East Main Street, Youngsville, NC, on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Come prepared to share your memories, stories, and love of Hank.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Hank's memory to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or the ECU Pirate Club, Ward Sports Medicine Building, Greenville, NC 27858.

Arrangements are by Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC. Condolences can be made at www.montlawn.com

Mo, I unfortunately, never had the chance to meet Hank face to face but spoke with him numerous times on the phone. His voice was warm and kind and seems his personality was much the same. I know I will miss our chats. Please know that my thoughts and prayers remain with you and the girls.
Sincerely! Terry Dail - Raleigh, NC

I'm saddened to hear of Hank's passing. I remember meeting Hank at the Raleigh YMCA when we were probably in the third or fourth grade. Hank was a classmate of mine at Ravenscroft since the seventh grade and although I haven't seen him since those days I'm certain he touched many people and made other lifelong connections that will be well remembered and sorely missed.

Haven't seen Hank since Ravenscroft graduation. However, I remember his sense of humor and kind spirit. Since reading the news today, I have marveled at how quickly time has passed. We were a small group of kids, fought like siblings, and related to each other like family. Years later, I still think of Hank as family. Long lost, but family none the less. I know you guys will miss him. And I'm sure he loved you fiercely. I'll be keeping all of you in my prayers.

Hank was a great person to work with and know. We worked together at Wachovia in Kinston. I've always remembered him although I haven't seen him since 1995. So sorry for your loss.

I was shocked and saddened to read about Hank's death this morning in the N&O. He was such a nice guy and a gentleman. Somewhere in my things there is a picture of us at the Ravenscroft spring formal from 10th grade...I in my pale yellow taffeta dress, and Hank in his matching pale yellow and black tuxedo. It seems impossible that someone who is still a young man in my memory, could be gone so soon. My thoughts are with his family.

Very fond memories of Hank and our good times together at ECU and Pi Kappa Phi. Thoughts and prayers to your family. Rest in peace Brother.

Hank has a legacy of smiles with friends from ECU, Wachovia, and in so may places where he brightened the lives of others...I value my conversations with him from his earliest days at ECU through this past year as his humor and appreciation of others were examples for all of us..Jim Westmoreland, Scott Hall Counselor, Career Services, College of Business.....
