J. Glass Obituary

Dr. J. Conrad Glass, Jr.
September 16, 1932 - November 14, 2022
Raleigh, North Carolina - Dr. J. Conrad Glass, Jr., 90, passed away at his home on November 14, 2022. A native and lifelong resident of Raleigh, Conrad was born on September 16, 1932, to the late J. Conrad, Sr., and Bertha Mae Smith Glass.
Conrad is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gaynelle Scotton Glass; son, Bill Glass and Vicki Whitlock of Raleigh; son, Scott Glass and wife Bonnie of Greenville, NC; and his grandchildren, Katie and Sam Glass.
Conrad was a proud graduate of North Carolina State University and Duke University Divinity School. After earning his Master of Divinity, he pastored Layden Memorial Methodist Church and served for a decade as the Director of Youth Work of the Eastern NC Conference of the United Methodist Church. Following this work, Conrad earned his master's and doctoral degrees in Adult and Community College Education at NC State, where he then taught for 31 years.
Never seeking recognition for himself, Conrad was a generous servant leader who appreciated both his careers and through them impacted the lives of many. His grateful spirit, humility and wit drew others to him. He loved his God, his wife, his family, Camp Don Lee, NC State, and the New York Yankees and not always in that order. A loyal friend, he was deeply loved and will be missed.
A Celebration of Life Service with visitation following will be held at 2pm on Monday, November 21, at Edenton Street United Methodist Church, 228 W. Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to Camp Don Lee, 315 Camp Don Lee Rd., Arapahoe, NC 28510 or Edenton Street United Methodist Church.
Service arrangements by Brown-Wynne, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh.

I am so sorry to learn of Dr. Glass“ passing. He was an excellent professor. I took several classes with him in grad school. I enjoyed his classroom experience so much that I asked him to be on my grad degree committee. Thankfully he agreed and I graduated in 1990.
He will live on in my memory. The family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Glass was a wonderful mentor and teacher. He brought the best out of everyone he met. He was on my dissertation committee. I am grateful our paths crossed. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Dr. Conrad Glass was a gentle and caring human soul who constantly sought to bring discourse and people to the highest levels. He was a colleague to everyone, whether we "belonged" to his Department, or we were just trying to help make the world a better place. I will always cherish the opportunity to share many conversations with him and to serve with him on committees. In all the years, I never saw this sweet man without a smile on his face. He lifted so many of us with his humor and understanding. I am a better faculty member and person because of my interactions early in my career with Conrad. Handbells are ringing in your honor, dear man.

With respect, admiration, and eternal gratitude for your life of service.

Conrad was a respected professional, dedicated volunteer, and caring friend. He was of tremendous help in the establishment and early success of our Encore Center.
He was loved and will be missed by me and so many others whose life he impacted. My sympathy to All the Family
