Jack Eugene Ferrell

Raleigh

Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jack Eugene (Gene) Ferrell, 88, died on May 4, 2018. He was born on October 2, 1929 in Raleigh, NC to parents, the late Pearcy Best and Calvin Dempsey Ferrell.

Gene is survived by his two daughters, Ann Ferrell DuBose and Genie Ferrell Monaghan. He was much loved by his surviving grandchildren Sarah and Luke DuBose, and Kelly, Ryann, Conor, Riley, Colin, Brian, and Eamon Monaghan.

He is preceded in death by grandson, Samuel Henry DuBose. He was known as "Grandad" to great-grandchildren Knox DuBose, Allison and Kayla Snyder, Evangeline Timmons, and Brayden Holguin. He is preceded in death by his brothers Grady, Pearcy, Carl, Walton, C.D. Ferrell of Raleigh, NC, and sister Yvonne Gill of Wilmington, NC.

Gene Ferrell was a graduate of Broughton High School, North Carolina State University, and obtained his Masters of Education degree from University of North Carolina. He was a retired school teacher from the Dade County, Florida school system. He was a talented athlete playing football, basketball, and tennis through his high school and college years. He went on to become an accomplished bowler later in life.

As a member of the armed services, he served in the US Army during the Korean War and was discharged with honors.

A graveside service will be held to celebrate the life of Jack Eugene Ferrell on July 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC.
