Jeanne R. Rouse
January 3, 1940 - September 6, 2021
Creedmoor, North Carolina - Jeanne R. Rouse died in her home on September 6, 2021. She was born in Granville County on January 3, 1940 to Battle C. and Hazel Daniel Roberts. She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Bertie David Prince, Jr. and three sisters, Madelene Steele, Joanne Allen and Bettye Moody. Jeanne is survived by her brother, Gary Roberts (Barbara); her husband of 46 years, The Rev. Ben C. Rouse and two children, Bertie David Prince, III (Judy) and Frances Jeannine Barbour (Floyd). She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Ginger Whitt, Amber Lawrence, Reba Duke, Lauren Lyon, Bill Lyon and Bobbie Cooper. There are eight great-grandchildren.
Jeanne worked as a bookkeeper in her early career and then as an Administrative Assistant to several District Superintendents of The United Methodist Church in the North Carolina conference. She served as Secretary, Treasurer and President of the NC Conference United Methodist Women and then was elected by the Conference to serve as Conference Lay Leader for four years. She was awarded the Methodist College Medallion in 1999.
She was a dedicated helpmate to her husband in churches he served in Creedmoor, Sanford, Wilmington, Fayetteville, the Rockingham District and Durham. Jeanne taught children's Sunday School classes, children's choir, and served on Boards and Committees, worked with local units and circles of the United Methodist Women and baked many loaves of bread and pound cakes for church visitors, members and events.
Jeanne delighted in family gatherings and especially in hosting grandchildren and great-grandchildren for "cousin's camp" in the mountains.
A service of Death and Resurrection for Jeanne and will be held on Saturday, November 20th, 2021 at 2:30 pm at the Creedmoor United Methodist Church, 214 Park Ave., Creedmoor.
Memorials in her name may be sent to The Methodist Home for Children, 1041 Washington St., Raleigh, NC 27605-1259.
